For those interviewing...

For you recent college grads or others currently interviewing, have you noticed a recent increase in the amount of interview requests and/or positions available?

As for me, I have been averaging about 2 interviews per week for the past 3 weeks or so. That is more than I had the first 6 months of the year.

I haven't been looking lately but that kind of gives me hope, especially with the time I've put into my current company and how fast I've moved up the chain of command here.

Any luck with those interviews btw?

They have been going pretty good actually. Got a call about an hour ago to set up a second interview with a very large food company offering a Supervisor position.

what type of position did you apply for?

not trying to be political, but is it because of election year?

When I was looking for a position three to four weeks ago, I was averaging two to three interviews for three weeks. I had four offers by the time I was ready to decide. I wasn't out of work at all during the recent tech slowdown, but from my experience last month it must be over.

i havent been looking for a job myself.. but from what my friends are saying, it seems like it's much easier to get an interview than it was a year or two ago.

hopefully this means the job market is picking up.. and less people will be going to grad school, so when i apply to grad school this fall or next, the admissions competition wont be as stiff 🙂

Placement coordinator through my school, online, as well as just contacting companies directly.

We have hired a number of new people in the past couple of months, both full-time and interns. Let me tell you, it's very nice to see new faces 🙂

Nice guess, but not the company I am interviewing with. 😉

Almost time for the companies to start figuring out how to spend their budgets and up their tax incentives before they lose them.

yep new fiscal year is the biggest part. Our company just started its next cycle and thus were taking on two new programmers along with a couple other people due to profits last quarter...something about the bush economy seems to be working 😛

I have heard the same. I may have to throw my hat back into the ring soon.

It's a pretty nice way to put it. 🙂

I'll be doing that very soon actually (right about this week). How do you guys go to all the interviews while working?

For me I have a couple afternoons off a week, I don't work full-full time. I just schedule them then.

Would it be bad if I don't put my current employer as a reference on the resume? I don't want him to know that I'm looking for a job. Would that reflect badly on me?

there does seem to be a lot more job postings to our job list...

everybody i know (cse majors) that graduated recently got a job within a quarter of graduating. interestingly enough, the vast majority got jobs at amazon.
