For those in college, how long are your classes and how long are they supposed to be?

Just curious how long your profs keep you. I mean I know attendance isn't required, but if you stay for the whole session, how long does it last?

Looking for 3 hour classes (I have mine at nights from 7-10) as in 1.5 hour classes getting out early doesn't really work since it's so short anyway.

Sometimes we get out as late as 9:50 (very rare) when we are supposed to, but usually it's just over after about 2 hours, 2 hours 15 minutes. No one can really stand to go on longer than that, even the prof 🙂

So just looking for 3 hour classes, how long the class lasts, and where you go. Thankee.

all of my lectures are 50 minutes and they last 50 minutes. i have one two hour lab, one three hour lab, and one four hour lab also

ha I have a class that lasts 4 hours twice a week, and we have to go in on our own time just to finish everything.

nothing like quantitative chemistry.

for 14 credits at my ex-school.. i was in class for around 30 hours a week.. classes ranged from 1.5 hours to 3

For my quantitative chem class we have one four hour lab and three 1 hour lectures. I usually have to spend at least 8-10 hours out of class to get the homework and lab reports done. I hate that class.

I have mwf classes that are 50mins, t, th classes that are 1:15. Labs are 2-3 hours, some actual classes that only meet once a week are 3hrs.
My summer classes are 3hours. Most of the time, except for labs, we stay the whole time.

Attendance isn't required? Most of the prof's here only allow 1-2 skips before it starts to really screw your grades :disgust:

Anyways it varies a lot I have one class that is supposed to be 1hr long & the prof. demands to keep us there for 2hrs every time!!! (no joking)

I also have a class that is supposed to be 1.5hrs long that we have never stayed more then 45min.

And it's a given that labs get out early quite often.

<< I don't underatand your question. More information is needed. >>

I just meant for those that have 3 hour classes (lecture only, not lab), how long does the prof teach?

generally for 3hr classes it's 80 minutes, 10 minute break, 80 minutes, you're done.

In community college it was unwritten policy to always let out at least ten minutes early - often earlier if the teacher felt like it. In UCDavis, where I am now, I never have teachers let us go before whatever the alloted time is is up. That, so far, has ranged from 50 mins to 2 hrs and always lasting the full time.

Where did you hear attendance isn't required? Colleges have caught on to the fact that the majority of the classes they offer aren't intellectually stimulating enough to make you want to go. Attendance policies have been the norm for a while now.

Policy at our school is to let the students out 10 mins early to provide time to go from class to class. In a 3 hr class teachers usually go 80-10-80 like scootin said

dont you hate factor-label

god i hate factor label, and avogadro, damn him too

I was speaking about here. Attendence isn't required, but is encouraged. Well by the books it's required, and the profs. take it down. They don't care if you show up or not. If you don't and fail, you'll never pass because they will be hard on your ass next time through. They have to take roll because a lot of folks are on financial aid, and if you miss more than 2 classes they drop you and you have to pay it back. They are supposed to drop you if you miss more than 2 classes, but since most of the folks here work full time jobs, or in some cases more than one job, many simply can't make every class.

Little bit of leeway for those folks who need it. The classes are small enough that the profs know if you are trying or not, and those that don't will have a tough time. As long as you are putting forth the effort, they won't drop you for missing more than 2 classes, that's all I meant by it wasn't required. There are still some schools that don't require it, as some it would be impractical to take roll.

I hate those classes where they keep you the whole time 🙂, we usually just cruise through without a break and get out earlier.

Oh, and another thing to add. This college is mostly older folks who aren't there to screw around. The classes are small (25 at the most, some with as few at 7-10), and it's extremely efficient compared to other places I've been. The profs can talk one-on-one with every student in most classes, and they can ask what they can skip over, and what they need to talk about. We hardly get basic instructions on anything, they expect you to have read the chapter or whatever and understand what's going on when you get to class. If not, fine they will teach it, but if you do it allows them to get to the advanced stuff faster and teach it more throughly, while at the same time get out a bit quicker 🙂

im at ucsd with some classes at 55 minuets to others that are 1 hour and 20 minutes. teh only ones ive had that are 3 hours long were taken aat a community college during summer school.

Most of the classes here at OSU go for 48 minutes 5 days a week. Some classes though got for 1:48 2 days a week.

my Discrete and Linear Structures class is 100 minutes... ug... i hate it

and the rest are 50 mins (45 most of the time... get out early)
