For those considering Mac OS...

Here is a link I found for some guy, who put together a page about the advantages of Apple. It's got screen shots as well. Even as a Mac user myself, I see a lot of bias in the writing. It's actually quite weighted in favor of Mac OS but the points he gets across are accurate. Basically when you read through the stuff, ignore the words "best", "better", and "supperior" or at least take it with a grain of salt. The stuff noted is pretty good though. Again, it's all preferences so don't get upset if he's knocking your favorite OS. Hope this helps anyone considering Mac OS.

That was so biased that my head hurts...

<< snap with Macintosh. Simply press Shift Command 3 to capture the entire screen. In Mac OS X, you can also use an application called "Grab" to that allows you to select just part of the screen.Windows does not offer such a built-in feature. >>

so what does this guy think the Print Screen key is for? Press it and the screen is put into the clipboard....sheesh...:Q

<< In recent studies, the PowerMac G4 with dual 1GHz processors came out 72 percent faster than a PC with a 2GHz Pentium 4 processor in some tests >>

do people ever give up? :p

i'm so sick of people debating the speed of macs in comparison to pcs...

When people realize that speed is not necessarily the only concern in a computer this BS may stop. But thats highly doubtful.

PCs work just fine for me, and I don't have enough extra money to go out and get ripped off getting a computer that is only slighly "easier to use," when in reality it will not be easy at all to use, as I have to defenestrate all my Windows and *NIX habits and relearn everything.

i dont think apple computers are a rip off. they come loaded with a lot of good stuff. i do think that no one competes with dell's prices. i cant figure out why their prices are so low but i do think apple's prices are competitive still.

yeah good thing u added the bias warning. this guy is realy accurate but realy realy wrong at the same time. i dont favor either side in the windows vs mac battle (i have two windows systems at home, two linux, one freebsd, and sadly no mac yet), but this guy has a huge bias.

i realy love his value arguments. everything i agree with, except substitute Macintosh and Apple with Linux.

<< A Macintosh computer can be a client in virtually any network. >>

lol, i love this. LINUX IS THE NETWORK. this guy is great humor for me.

this guy seems to think those airports are the greatest thing since sliced bread for some reason. doesnt he know linux 802.11b card and pringle's can antanae work much better than those airports?

im very amused by this guy, not because i disagree (osx is a realy nice product) but because hes so blind at all the faults of mac (cost, non-multimedia software, etc). he just refuses to even acknowledge them.

New Apple G4 Beat by 18 month old PIII in benchmarks

Go read this article, reported by c't

here's a teaser:

<< The G4 scored between 147 and 187 on the floating point tests, while the Pentium III scored 297. Today's Pentium 4's double that figure, and as a result, today's PCs are four times as fast as Apple's professional line in some situations.

But ever since Motorola decided to focus on embedded markets for its processors in Fall 1997, Steve Jobs has had to rely on one highly dubious bake off for his Pentium-trouncing demos. This squares a Mac Photoshop against a buggy, older version of Photoshop on Windows, and one that doesn't take advantage of the Screaming Sindy v2 instructions. Can you guess which one wins?

Do you have something new/worthwhile to add to the discussion or are you another blind PC zealot stuck using Windows?

I work for an education institute and they have dual platform... I can tell you from experience that I have less problem with Mac than PCs. Not to mention yesterday when I went to an OS X introduction held by the school district.. I was really blown away by their iDVD program. I am not sure if there is such a program for PCs out yet but just the ease of use on that program really blown me away. They also support education institutes lifetime so whenever I have problem with Macs rather it's IIc or 7200 or the iMac they will fix it.

Now by watching their OS X I realized that a lot of the things that they implemented are from PC side. But they are definitely good OS and good machines and I personally believe that they are a better choice for edcuation institutes.

Informative and pathetic at the same time, nice concept :)

A must say though, I can't help but getting annoyed at zealotry at that level, no matter which side it comes from.
Oh well, nothing I havent seen before so nothing to get worked up about really.

agreed. in these forums i tend to stick up for Mac OS because it is the underdog, but in the Mac forums i visit it's the other way around. both microsoft, apple, and all the various linux companies make good products. definitely dont put my eggs all in one basket.

i'm the same way, defending pc's to mac zealots and defending macs to pc zealots. people just need to chill and be more welcoming of variety in computers.

We actually need more articles like that to convince people to buy macs. Competition is good! Hopefully Apple will be able to hold on for a few more years. They have fought the good fight against Intel, AMD, Dell, Gateway, IBM, Compaq, Microsoft, etc... but eventually all good things come to an end.

I could. I dont use GIMP though. Ok, I use it occassionally, but Im no good at that. I use XF86 on Mac OS X on occassion, and that means I can use even more programs for UNIX-like systems.

No, I made fun of them like everyone else. Actually I had considered it briefly, but I couldnt figure out Mac OS 9. One day at CompUSA it all clicked though. But that was after Mac OS X was out I believe.

Where do you think the 3-d folders in windows xp comes from?
Where do you think the cute hd, cdrom, floppy icons in xp comes from?
The next thing microsoft will do is to make transition from Partition drive letter (C, D, E, F etc..) to volume as Apple/Unix.

Name a microsoft product that is genuine?
