My first car was a 1974 green Ford Pinto Station wagon. This was in 1985.

It was an automatic and when you hit a bump it would jump out of gear into neutral. Fun.

AM radio, no air and, well it was a PINTO!!!!!!!!!!

2nd Car: 1984 Nissan Sentra. I killed this car with 3 accidents. Early death.

That was STARSKY and HUTCHES model car no?

My best friend had this car, in a puke green color. It was a beast. I remember sticking to the vinyl in the summer. :)

My parents bought me a 1984 Honda Civic DX in 1986. That car served me very well, and then served my husband for a few years.

He drove a 1970-something Diesel Rabbit. My dad called it "The Wheelbarrow". We had to tie it to my car and tow it down the block to get it started when he would come to visit me. Once it was breaking down as he crossed the bridge to get to my house (we lived on opposite sides of the Bay) and he patched it up with a pair of underwear and a fork he had in the backseat. There was a busted hose of something, and he plugged it up with that. That is probably the best memory I have of those days. I was so amazed when I looked under the hood and saw the Hanes and the fork!

TRP, well kinda, except theirs was not a 4 door and did not have valve that rattled all the time. Starsky& Hutch's car was cool, mine was just big blue and ugly, but all my friends could fit in it and at 16 that is a big bonus.

1st: 63 1/2 VW Beetle. Basically had no heating system, windshield scraper needed for both the inside and outside ... BRRRRRR!

2nd: 67 Chevy w/3 on the 'Tree

3rd: 69 Cougar XR7 (truly owned by a "little old lady", only 27K miles at the time of purchase, and I still own it today, 26 yrs. later).

You can tell from the above when I also got my first job ...

Undercover Quebec Provincial police officer car. 1976 sky blue Chevy Malibu with 4 barrel carbs and bored pistons. Had 15,000 miles and had never been in a chase when I bought it in 1980. Still, it could get a kick down at 90mph. When that happened, you could almost see your fuel gauge go down and hear the quarters coming out of your exhaust pipe. It felt like a F-4 Phantom II on afterburners. :)

The speedometer stopped at 120mph but I went at least 10 mph more after the needle had stuck past that mark (on a deserted air strip).

Great first car. The only car I ever had. Sold it in 1990. :)

One of those SSP racers.
You pull the stick and let it run over a ramp made of books.

--speaking for my dad who is a little over 40, Willy's jeep, $250, was a rust bucket with very little interiorto speak of. I've seen some pictures, that thing came back from the dead. He's owned some Chevelle's and stuff and then he got another jeep and a Kawasaki bike and then he got a 80's Honda Accord and a '92 Camry but now he's back to a '64 Nova SS but sold the 'Saki.

Well, I'm not quite that old, but I did have an old first car.

In 1992 I had a 1974 Dodge Monaco - 2 door, V8, mint green, 8 track. When it ran it was a fun car, I could pile a ton of friends into that thing.

My first car was a '71 Volkswagen Super Beetle Super Vee. It was a special Wolfsburg edition with Porsche rims etc. It's actually quite a rare car today, wish I would have known that then.

I drove this car while I was rebuilding/restoring my first Mustang, a '66 hartop candyapple red/red interior.

I'm only 19, and I don't even have a car, but I'm going to post anyway. :)

I want an early model (Pre 55) VW Bug, believe it or not. :) Preferrably 6 volt electrical system ..

I want to restore it, if needed ..

Ahhhh ... the Chevy 327 - probably the finest smallblock V-8 ever mass produced. I currently own two cars with this motor, one is 350HP, the other is the 365HP version with solid lifters. GM was smart to recently revive this motor - it's being used in their fullsize P/U's.

A blue 1968 VW bug. I can look out the window and wave at it now.

A good car, like a good man, lasts a long time.

1947 Ford Pick-Up. Picked it up for $400 at the tender age of 14. It was in serious need of someone with more patience than I to restore it to its original condition. I did some of the work and then sold it to my Dad who paid to have it restored. He just sold it a few years ago. After that, it was a 1978 Chevy Cutlass. Such a fine car, I've owned two of them.

Well I'm not one that's really into cars but what made the Ford Pinto such a funky car? I've heard many stories... some that it was cheaply made that it broke down a lot and another saying that it exploded a lot because of the way the gas tank was built? Someone care to filter the fact from the rumors for me?
