Lots of places have signs specifically saying to NOT flush them. And some have the little mini trash container right there in the stall.

Lets just say that from my experience with my girlfriend, if its the "right" week, my bathroom toilet paper roll diminishes extremely quickly and the bathroom trash basket fills up quickly. She takes out the bathroom trash that week, and I refill the bathroom roll. No questions asked.

I want you to imagine you're a woman who is sitting in the restroom, on her period, who knows that tampons are safe for most toilets to flush and pads are not safe to flush, and picture what YOU would do with such items. Would you fling them into the trash and make a mess everywhere, or would you flush the item if you could flush it/discretely wrap up and discard it if you can't? Why do you think ladies would do something nasty? Remember, you asked about what "ladies" do, not disgusting swine. I thought it was common knowledge not to flush ANY used 'products'. They plug up the pipes and then you have more serious problems than using extra toilet paper and taking out the trash. The last woman I knew who thought you could flush tampons had serious overflowing toilet issues which turned out to be much more nasty than anything described here so far.

Wrap it up, throw it out.

tampons - flushed
tampon applicators, pads and everything else are wrapped in toilet paper and put into the little paper bag thing in the little box in the stall or in the trash can of the washroom.

I know I shouldn't flush tampons but they are icky.

The mods don't consider my contributions to the forums to be worthy of that. I'm not really sure I do either, to tell the truth.

First, I'm sorry Bryophyte, but I had NO idea you were female. Where the HELL HAVE I BEEN?!?!11?!one? Lo ciento!

Second, even for the toilets where you're not supposed to flush 'used feminine hygiene products', they get flushed. How do we know? There are either overflowing toilets or signs asking you to NOT flush them. Personally, there have probably less than five times I have ever flushed a product. They're discreetly wrapped in TP even in the closed trashcans. I certainly don't want to see it, so I leave the restroom they way in which I'd like to enter.
