I think its the hidden hand of Rove---who found the ideal pliant front man in GWB---and Cheney was added to give credibility and Washington insider experience to polish what amounted a very dubious GWB resume. And it worked pretty well for six long years. And now the results of the Rove version of bad public policy is coming home to roost.

But its a virtual replay of Ronald Reagan era---and Ronny needed a seasoned GHB to add experience
in foreign affairs to the package---and the Reagan years of deficit spending was a public policy that could not be sustained----and poor old GHB got caught in the reality of read my lips---gotta raise taxes or the roof falls in. And the eight year national stupidity came to an end. Followed by 12 years of less stupid public policy to pay for the mistakes and dig out of the hole---and we get GWB who digs us into a far bigger hole with an un winnable war to add insult to injury.

When will the American Sheeple ever learn?---when you have some boob who slickly spins and oversimplifies public policy----you will be taken to the cleaners if you vote for them.

But Cheney may now have a excuse to get out---the blood clot in the leg--a possible resignation for health reasons---and replaced by some Republican who can run strong in
2008.

Well at the time I don't think they had a great selection of VPs for the 2000 election. At the 2004 the problem is that Cheney was still in good health and as such unless he wanted to step down I don't think anyone would have asked.

As for him not being electable. That is debatable. I don't think he would run simply because of his age and health.

The other problem faced is that of the available governors at the time of 04 it was probably better to leave them in office than put them into the VP slot.

It does give the Republicans a lot of versatility in 08, they are not hamstrung into a bad choice as the democrats were with Gore in 2000. He was their default choice, they really weren't given the opportunity for a better one. I really think anyone other than Gore would have lost as well though.

To the bolded above: are you insane? Pedophiles would have a higher approval rating than this jackass that is completely detached from reality. Last throes, greeted with flowers, blah blah blah.

isn't Cheney's approval rating somewhere in the 15-20% range?

If he's lucky.

there's so many other things wrong with Rudy I don't think it'll matter :p

if it were me, I'd start with the time he told his wife he wanted to divorce her via live press conference. pre-9/11, Rudy wasn't a very popular mayor and there were certainly reasons for it.
Are you on drugs?
He was insanely popular, so popular that after 9-11 a lot of people wanted him to stay on as mayor even though his term was ending.

The only people who don't like Rudy are on the New York Times editorial board. And some of the liberal power whores who run parts of New York. Otherwise his turn around job in New York is one of the greatest political feats of the last 50 years.

I fixed your bolding for you... if there was an election held on September 10th, 2001, Rudy would have had a tough time of it. his approval ratings were in the low 40's and dropping.

Look the way I see it... If I were in the VP's shoes I wouldn't want to run either! :)

Go down as the worst president / vp in US history! Lowest ratings.... Most damage done to this country.... Oh yeah! That's gonna look real good on his resume!
