Is this a southern thing? Seems rather common to see on Craigslist down here... "For sell or trade". Makes me laugh a little every time I see that.

Yes, people in the South are stupid. The 4-way stop near my house confirms that daily.

I wouldn't characterize it as a southern thing. I lived over 30 years in the south and while I saw my share of illiterate idiots, there's just as many up north where I've lived for the past 10 years.

honestly, 'for sell or trade' makes sense to me (though i'd never say/type it). 'trade' and 'sell' are both verbs, 'sale' is a noun.

however, just saying something is 'for sell' does make you sound entirely retarded.

Well I've seen just straight up "For sell" many times too.

After watching the Top Gear episode where they drove thru the deep south in 'baiter' vehicles, I am not surprised at anything that comes out of that area.

Reminded me of poor Ned Beatty in Deliverance ....

I thought it was mainly immigrants who don't know American English very well? I always associate "For Sell" with an Indian or Asian :hmm:

I'd put up with any literary idiosyncrasies of the south to escape the blue state hell of the north.
