(sorry for the mis-leading title...it's NOT mine. IMO, it should say "Earth station)

CARMEL, Calif. -- Ever wanted your own nuclear bomb-proof space station on the Central Coast? You're in luck.
The Jamesburg Earth Station in Carmel Valley is for sale, and could be yours for a cool $2,950,000.
The space-observing earth station at 18773 Cachagua Road was built in the 1960's, when the U.S. was in the midst of a nuclear arms and space race with the Soviet Union.
Still tired from fighting World War II, the world's two superpowers wrestled for superiority by inventing intimidating technology.
As a result, the Cold War building was built to withstand a 5 megaton nuclear blast. Talk about security.
Jamesburg Earth Station was the first to receive live images from the moon in 1969. Jamesburg Earth Station broadcasted the first-ever people on the moon to the rest of the world, giving the U.S. major bragging rights over its Soviet Union rival.
In addition to a 20,000 square foot space station, you will also get 160 acres of land, an antenna as tall as an 11-story building, helicopter landing pad, three-story house, Fiber Optic OC-48 cable, a barn, and two wells of water.
The space station's next owner will be able to spy on and study our Milky Way Galaxy and far reaches of the universe.
You could also start your own worldwide television station. Its antenna and satellite can directly broadcast to Asia, South America, the South Pacific, and the entire U.S.
The Jamesburg Earth Station was closed by the government in 2002 and sold to a private investor.
The space property package is being sold by Coldwell Banker Commercial.

BEWARE crappy music track

$2.9 to buy and probably that much more to make it into something commercially cool - like a hotel or something. Maybe a Fallout themed hotel.

If you are going to spend $2.9 million, you might as well buy a nice mansion.

I think most of the money is in the land. The building looks like a mess. The Atlas missle silos are a better bargain than this.

I'm not sure how's that nuclear proof. It's got a flat roof and one of the pictures show's a standard steel door to the outside. The exterior looks to be concrete.

Yeah, this is Carmel Valley, CA not southeast Wyoming so the land is worth a lot more. The dish would make a most excellent solar forge. A few hundred square feet of mirror tile should do it.

I would sell all the land around me and keep like 5 acres to my self. Maybe setup some solar panels in that radar. Good to go

How many of us would it take to buy that and set up shop? 20-30? We would all get a bunch of acres a piece. I would totally start a cult.

if i were in the market for a bunker, i'd strongly consider new construction. for that kind of investment i'd design around my needs instead of a very painful fixer-upper.
