For Sale forum bumping rules need clarification

I have asked for clarification on this and I don't feel as if I got any. I looked many times at the forum rules and the only rule that applies to bumping is this one:

No excessive bumping of your own thread. No more than once every 4 hours. NOTE that this includes responding to other users' questions in your thread, as this also causes your thread to be bumped and unfairly pushes other threads down. Responses to other users sooner than 4 hours should be made by pm or email or by editing the original post.

I feel it is important that, if you are going to give out infractions for this, then you should spell out the requirement in the rules clearly for everyone to see.

It might be an incentive to charge a FEE for getting a STICKY on the for sale area...... Maybe $20 for 3 weeks?? (WHT has something like this and it works well)

I dunno if the staff want to deal with $$$$ transcations but it may help them on the site here if ppl really want stickys of thier offers.......

I think that's completely different that what I'm asking about here, but thanks for the suggestion.

From my discussions with others, it looks like I'm not the only one around here who has asked for this. Isn't it time this gets clarified?

Seems pretty self explanatory IMO. Looks like you are only allowed to post in your own thread every 4 hours. What needs to be clarified?

What exactly are you having trouble understanding? That might help to clarify what you're asking, although it doesn't seem to be vague.
You can post no more than once in your thread every four hours, including bumping and answering questions. (Questions can be answered by editing your original post if something needs detail, or PMing the inquirer for more personal issues.)

If you return a bump from another user, and you do more than the mod on duty likes, you get nailed for it. It's totally subjective, since there's no criteria. One time I was told one thing, and even though I was following that "guide" I got nailed for it again.

Huh, that's an odd rule. Unfortunate that you can't use the forum normally to answer questions about the stuff you're selling.

What does that part mean? To me it reads like you find the other user's fs thread, and bump it. That's not against the rules. If your own thread is getting bumped more than once every 4 hours and you have something to do with it, it's against the rules.

I don't find it terribly complicated, in fact, it is intuitive if you make courtesy to other sellers your primary concern.

It's not against the rules but highly frowned on because it's really no different than bumping your own thread excessively.

Oh, well, it should probably be spelled out, then. I don't really think bumping someone else's thread is the same as bumping your own, but then again I've only sold a handful of things in FS, so I don't know if there is a group of wingnuts going around bumping each other's threads like a big circle jerk. That would be kind of annoying.

Sure you can. You can edit your OP in the thread - which is what everyone looks at first (thus is probably the best place for some sort of clarification). Alternately, you can use the PM.

To the OP of this thread, the spirit of the rule is to give everyone a fair amount of time toward the top of the forum. From there, it comes down to common sense and common courtesy. If there were two people who reciprocated bumps of each others' thread every hour, well, that's certainly against the spirit of the rule, isn't it? So, while there may be some gray area, I don't think it would serve anyone any better by having a set of rules that were 40 pages long.

Sorry :awe:
