You can still find a few if you look around, but there is the issue of manufacture dates that I brought up earlier. The site I posted earlier is selling these reportedly brand new. They are internally identical to the Mitsubishi 2070SB and would be outstanding monitors (probably the best out there actually, alongside the FW900) as long as they contain the earlier, high quality tubes.

edit - are there ANY new Trinitron/Diamondtron CRTS commonly available?

Get a CRT and wait for SED. It is a lot more promising.

For comparision I just hooked up my old Compaq CRT monitor. It's an MV500 model, I'm sure it was fairly cheap (don't even remember), 15".

Text is far blurrier than LCD, but oh-my-god, in only the few days I've been using the LCD, I'd forgotten how much nicer the contrast is on CRT. This monitor is CHEAP, yet Doom 3 and Thief look twice, nay, three times better. Richer colours, DEEP blacks. The kind, I assume, you can only get with ultra-expensive LCDs.

I realize that the Samsung 997 is not the greatest 19" CRT in the world, but it seems to get mostly good reviews here, it's cheap and it's easily available. Provided Future Shop will refund me on the LCD, I'm gonna pick up the 997 as soon as I can. Blurry text be damned (if it even occurs; sounds like for most people it doesn't), it's the games that count, and if a cheap little 15" CRT (can only do 60hz at 1024x768 :D) can impress me like this one, the Samsung should do just fine.
