For people who use firefox, why dont you use IE7/8?

Why? I dont use it because imo IE's interface sucks, in firefox i can have all the buttons on the left side of the screen, i have absolutely no need for anything over on the right. Also the favourites thing is always a bar instead of a drop down menu (i know IE7/8's can be pinned to the side like a bar too but it reverts back to a dropdown sometimes), its all the interface. If IE was as customizeable as firefox i would seriously consider switching.

What about you guys?

WTF? How? I'm use IE 8 and hate that some websites just fail on me for no reason, even compatibility mode doesn't work on some, that's bout my overall complaint, do like the recover of tabs tho'

Because it has nothing to offer.

If I felt the need to switch, it would be to Opera with Chrome a distant second. Mozilla just needs to work on the general "sluggishness" of Firefox when it comes to startup time, memory use, and the overall feel. Otherwise, in terms of usability and features that come with extensions, I'm happy with Firefox.

I love firefox for the plugins.

On an unrelated note, I do NOT use Adblock. I'd rather see the site, as it was meant to be seen by it's creators.

-cd

NoScript
AdBlockerPlus
FAST - much much faster.

Also I began using FF in 2.0beta long before IE7 and tabbed IE browsing; Tabs changed browsing for me forever.

FF is well supported by the internet community, with IE your stuck waiting on MS to provide fixes, patches and new functionality/features. Obviously with Mozilla you have to wait on them for official patches or updates as well, but they are infinitely more responsive, and the enhancements etc come from the community and if it isn't good it gets panned and someone writes something new that's better.

Nuf said.

a) it's simply as clumsy as could be.

b) it's GUI is not in synch with what seems natural and intuitive to me, while the FF GUI does.

c) it's simple, fast & easy to adjust the FF "Options", which are laid out intuitively (to me), while it's a trial & error PITA to adjust IE's "Tools" and "Internet Options" to achieve what I want.

d) it takes time I don't have to pause and figure settings out for IE. Figuring out how to make the settings I want in FF takes only a few seconds, i9s nearly efortless.

e) it labels things using a vocabulary that's pretty much unique to Microsoft's proprietary world, which again is a PITA. FF labels things using a (to me) more natural vernacular, and which seems much more "universally" proliferated in the universe of computer software applications. For example, everybody says "bookmarks." Nobody says "Favorites" except Microsoft, so a user has to learn the translation that "Favorites" means "bookmarks" which is what everybody says.

f) there are only 2 fans of IE on God's earth: forum Member mechBgon (j/k! :laugh🙂 & Steven Anthony Ballmer. The rest of us only suffer the use of it when dealing with banks and MS updates.

Been using firefox too long. However due to a lot of custom written web apps at work we tend to stick with IE7. IE8 when it's 100% compatible with Deltek, so who when that happens yay.

Otherwise for most of my browsing it's Firefox the whole way. Love the plugins.

i use lots of extensions.

i use chrome for gmail/reader

ie is 3rd backup browser...ie8 is an improvement yes, but not enough to drag me from firefox.

No Ad Block for IE and it takes longer to open initially (at least for my computers). So for me, Firefox is still the "browser of choice"
Especially with Ad Block, Remove It Permanently, Forecast Fox, Google Toolbar and some other odd extensions added. I also like Opera
but, I can't get the Ad Block feature to do what I want it to. (It is not inituitive as to how to get it to work properly) But Opera does download files much faster than IE or Firefox.

Haven't tried IE8.

I prefer FireFox over IE7 because it is a faster browser. IE7 is virtually unusable on sites like Digg. I'm not a browser or OS evangelical, though. If IE8 turns out to be better when I try it, I'll use it instead.

I agree with you on this point. I could never understand why IE would have the navigation buttons seperated by the address field. It seemed to be a bad design decision. However in Windows 7(rc 7100) the IE version has fixed that anomaly by allowing you to put the navigation buttons all together on the left where they belong.

I freakin' hate Chrome. Speed's about the only thing it has going for it. It's ugly as hell, is too stripped, and it has poor button placement.
