was looking at a web site for a painting to put in my room. they offer a lot of them as either a framed print or a canvas transfer. I know the canvas transfer will look better, but I've never actually seen one side by side with a print to really understand how different they look. It's quite a bit more than the print, was wondering if the difference will be POW or much more subtle. It's going to be a reprint of a Van Gogh (if that means anything)

2nd question they offer 4 sizes, the room is about 15x12. the large canvas is 33.1" x 25.3" the oversize is 53.3" x 44" is the oversize going to be too big for that room? If I order it I can't return it without taking a loss (return shipping + 25% fee) so I want to get what would be a decent size for the room I'll be in. I'm trying to imagine the oversize in my head and it seems like it's overkill. Size will be a personal preference thing but I'm really clueless what a good standard painting size would be. I don't think I'll have anything else on the wall.

sorry if the questions sound dumb but I'm an art noob and am thinking getting a nice reprint in my room might start to peak my interests and get me more into art.

Depends on personal taste.

Canvas transfer tend to look better on very large prints because the canvas texture add depth to the print.

Lithograph prints on good paper look better than highly textured prints on smaller scale, because the texture take the colour intensity away from the image.

IMHO, Canvas texture tend to be lost it depth behind glass therefore Litho is good enoughs even on large scale when you have nice mat & tasteful glass frame.

 for the oversize print.

great post NoShangriLa thanks you cluing me in, going back to the site I noticed only a few of the pieces were even available on canvas. Starry Nights happens to be so I guess I'll go with that oversize. Now I just have to figure out if I want to get it framed or museum wrap. I don't think they even offer glass so I won't even bother thinking about getting the print.

All things look great frame.

I would get the print framed in good quality bevel mat, and the mat borders have to be at least 3?-4? wide to focus your eyes to the print.

I have seen great looking prints from well know artists look terrible by itself. And, I have seen modest little prints (4?x4?) that look absolutely awesome with 6?-8? mat borders.
