For Import Haters...

First off let me state a couple of things:

1) I hate ricers too... I think it's stupid that ppl put stickers and things all over their cars to pretend they're fast, while they're not...
2) I dont hate domestic cars...
3) Yes I drive an import too, specifically a Honda Civic HB... but I have ZERO mods on the car, so I dont think I am a ricer... I bought the car simply because of it's fuel-economy, reliablility, and high resale value...

That being said, I would like to comment on those "Import sucks" or "imports are torqueless POS" comments. I mean, we all know imports are torqueless compared to domestic cars. But not because jap. car makers can't, they just didnt design their engines with torque in mind. American cars get HP from the size of their engines, while Jap. car makers do it by advanced engineering. You have to admit, getting over 100hp/liter but still keep the engine that reliable is truly impressive.

I am not saying whether one is superior over the other. I just think domestics and imports are going in different directions, so it's unfair to generalize "import sucks" by looking at just one attribute.

And yes, we all know that no matter how much $$ you spend on a civic or integra, you still wont beat a Mustang at the dragstrip... But I also dont think we should judge those who try... I am sure those who modify their civics/integras arent looking to be the fastest car in the dragstrip, or else they would have gotten a Mustang or camero to start with... Some ppl just wanna see how far they can push that little 1.6L engine, and that process can be both fun and rewarding...

Once again, this post is not to start a flame war, or debate whether domestic is better than import or vice versa... I am not favouring one side over another... I just wanna state my opinion and maybe try and stop these endless/pointless debates and arguments...

Aren't pretty much all debates and arguments on here pretty much pointless?

Ricers are crap 😉

Domestics are crap also. 😉

'Cept for the Z06 and Viper.

I personally would take a import (Japanese or European) over a domestic based on reliablity. I too will be getting a used Civic HB, probably only do a few engine mods, but nothing to make it look "riced".

I buy jap cars because of the reliability. Just bought my 3rd Toyota... last one went over 130,000 miles.. show me an american car that can do that consistantly and i'll consider buying oen.

Didn't the S2000 come out last year?
How can you say that it's reliable?

Why do you even give a sh*t what other people think about your car? If they are stuck up enough to criticize your every purchase they must have something stuck in their ass. And no, I do not drive an import.

<< show me an american car that can do that consistantly and i'll consider buying oen. >>

130k miles is nothing for just about any type of car! I can name countless domestic cars that can hit will over 130k and still run like a watch. 130k is no big deal, 200k is 🙂

<< And yes, we all know that no matter how much $$ you spend on a civic or integra, you still wont beat a Mustang at the dragstrip >>

Didn't someone post a link of a riced out Integra beating a Mustang? Granted if they had spent the money on the Mustang that they had on the Integra it would have smacked that rice back to Japan it is possible.

My '89 pontiac 6000 le has close to 120000 miles on it and it runs like new. It needs shocks and a new accessory belt but other than that its still going strong. These cars can go over 200,000 and still keep going strong. Cars are cars, if you change the oil and do regular maintenance, the only thing that can bring 'em down is bad engineering, bad driving and acts of god.

I will consider a Japanese car an option when I can comfortably fit in the drivers seat of one.

German and Domestics seem to have the concept down that not everone is under the height of 5'8".

Viperoni:
The Integra Type-R also makes over 100hp/liter... depends on which year type-r and where you live, it makes between 190-200hp with 1.8 liters engine...

yakko:
Cars like mustangs and camero can easily break into the 9's at the strip, which the integra/civic will have to do a lot to accomplish... I was only trying to state that those jap cars wasnt designed with performance as their first priority...

Soybomb:

That car is turbocharged and intercooled, so I dont think that counts... most can get 100hp/liter if they use any kind of forced-induction....

Honda accomplish 100hp/liter without any kind of forced induction, all from engineering...

I say its all fair when it comes out. No matter what you use if you fall into the same price range and class, cool 🙂 Besides thats little beast has some torque too 😉

There's nothing hard about getting 100HP/Litre from a 4 cyl engine. Either add forced induction, or crank up the compression ratio and add lightweight components. Higher compression is the key to the N/A HP in the Hondas, it isn't anything special, just the same as turboing to get that kind of HP isn't anything special

Whatever, all cars have their strengths and weaknesses. The thing is, I'd get a Japanese car over any other car because of it's reliability and value. German cars are a little too expensive, and domestics, unless I need a pickup, I would never buy. I've just had really bad experiences with domestics. Especially electrical problems in Fords (Mercury and Lincoln).

<< I just want to know why, if imports are "all that", why don't they use them for police cruisers? >>

Domestic cars are cheaper.

<<why don't they use them for police cruisers>>

Because the government wants to keep as much money as it can in country. Buying domestic vehicles pumps the American economy.

Personally, I like Volvo's. 😉
