I ride my motorcycle pretty much everywhere, every time. The car's nice, but if someone was going to kick in $500 a month, I'd do without.

It'll be just a one time cost to pave a safe bike trail from home to work 5 miles away. Otherwise I wouldn't last past a mile from my house in North Dallas riding my bike to work before getting run over by an SUV driven by some crazy big hair woman on a cell phone.

I wouldn't even begin to consider it until it was in the $25k/month range. And even then, I would only do it for one month, then use my car for 8 months or so before I would do it again to make another 25k.

The freedom and convenience of having a car is more valuable then money...except in those situations where I need money, then i'll do it for a month.

OTOH, if I lived close to where I work/go to school and my girlfriend did as well, I'd do it for substantially less.

Hmm ... 20+ mile commute to work. No public transportation available. Cab fare would be about $50 each way.
$100 for every work day. For weekends, I usually go with my GF out of town or at the very least, shopping or to visit family. If she could still have her car then we'd be ok, but otherwise, We'd need at least $200 for every weekend day. Then, due to time lost waiting for cabs, etc, and all the inconveniences that come along with it, I'd want at least $1K per month on top of that.

So, If somebody gave me 5K per month, I would be OK with not having a car.

Interesting responses :)
Pulse 8 - I asked how much I would need to pay you to make you give up your car. I don't care how much you make :)
