For First Time, More Singles In U.S. Than Married Couples

What effect does this have on the economy?

It could have a negative effect on the housing market and consumer spending.

Because singles are less likely to have children–and divorced singles who already have children are less likely to have more–“they are bound to be more self-centered in the way they live and spend money,” Yardeni said.

Is everything in you're world doom and gloom Dave? Isn't there a single ray of sunshine that breaks through every now and then and warms your heart? Have you ever been just sitting out in some beautiful piece of country and thought that it's nice to be Dave?

It will have an effect on the economy, but not for another 20-30 years. By then I will either be dead or past my prime anyway.

Have a nice day. :)

Women are crazy(er) now-a-days. Plus, marriage is a total scam that fucks the man over 11 times out of 10, so its no wonder there are more singles.

What do you expect when the government passes laws that favor women? Why would anyone want to pay alimony until their ex-spouse remarries, or get ran through the child support meat grinder?

If I was 20 years old again, I would never get married or have kids.

Screw having to spend thousands on a divorce, or $10K+ to fight to even see your kids. Save yourself the heartache and never get married or have kids.

Just look at the single center minded dolts that post in here.

I resemble that remark, I think. Um, what does that mean, anyway?

Anyway, there are more single people because there are more fat people and no one wants to marry a fatty.

I also want to say that I am tickled that this thread has not tripped into a tangle of trite trolling.

Been through 2 divorces in my life, one before I was 2, and one 2 years ago. It's a bitch and my sister has to live with it, too. D:

Hmmmm my divorce (1st marriage) cost me less than $500 and that includes the cost of the separation agreement. We worked out custody/child support it was part of the separation agreement.

$500? Are you in a third world country? :D I kid, I kid. Pretty amazing you found a cheap deal. My dad had to pay over 10k because my stepmom kept accusing him of being a drug abuser, and they kept making him take a drug test. Whole thing went on for a year.

Somehow you are always one of the lucky few. Everyone of your post is about how great your life is.

My divorce took around a year and a half, cost close to $8k, then my exwife poisoned my kids minds with all kinds of lies. She told my kids I wanted her to abort them, and how I never wanted kids, told them I never worked, just flat out lies.

It must be nice to live in your world where nothing ever goes wrong.

As for the opening post, if your spouse lies on loans and credit cards, secretly gets them in your name without your knowledge, you are still responsible for the bills.

Your wife can walk in, say she wants a divorce, lay $20k of credit card debt in your lap, and there is not much you can do about it. Or even put you as a co-signer on the bills.

Why would anyone want to subject themselves to that?

I did what my lawyer recommended, work out everything with your (soon to be ex) wife prior to the filing of the separation agreement. Even though she ran off with a another man while I was out to sea she had rights to 50% of everything we owned. I got to have my kid every other weekend when I was not at sea.

Same exact scenario as my dads, except he went out of town almost every week every month, 24/7.

Can't live with them, can't live without them.

There is a strong disincentive for men to get married due to divorce & custody laws. At the same time, women aren't as strongly encouraged to get married (certainly not until they're older) and having children without being married or in a relationship is widely acceptable and support by the society & the government.

Women still have a strong biological drive to have babies, so we'll see the unwed motherhood rate continue to climb, and government continue to grow to support that demographic.

Sounds like you are making Texashiker's point there.

Women have a financial incentive to have child out of wedlock.

Need your college paid for? Have a couple of kids and do not marry the baby daddy.

Want a monthly pay check? Have two or three kids all by different men, then get child support from all the baby daddies.

A lady I know has 4 kids by three different men. She makes more off child support then I do working a full time job.

1) Assuming that the father has the funds to provide support
2) Assuming that the mother wants the funds and the responsibilities that go with it.
