The paper is relevant to the course, is a one-page summary of a recent paper published in a major journal, and it's not something that the professor is likely to dock points over politics. AFAIK, you have to sign for extra credit at the end of the concert.

I used to only do extra credit when it was simple and not too time consuming because I never needed it, but a little insurance never hurt. I would bail on any extra credit that took too much time or effort since I used to put the effort into making sure I didn't really need it.

I use all extra credit opportunities offered if the professor explicitly states he doesn't curve. I took a course where the only grades were three tests and an essay. I ended up getting a 91 without the EC... and the EC was a 900-word essay worth 2 points on your final grade.

I wrote that bitch in 15 minutes, turned it in, and got my A.

I'd write the short essay since I'm good at writing papers/pulling shit out of my ass. Even if the professor docks, it's still worth something (assuming it doesn't penalize your grade).

I expected a majority of votes for the concert for this reason. The event is sponsored by our school's pre-med organization thingy and the charity is ~1/2 medical related and ~1/2 poor/minority-help related.

Just a 1 page essay? sure. I used to HATE essays and I'm so glad I never have to write one again, but a 1 page one would not be too bad, and if it's on something science related that makes it more interesting too.
