I havea 2003 Grand am SE.

I am looking to install 4ohm speakers onto the stock deck.

My stock speakers are 8 ohm. Will it damage the stock unit to make this install??

I talked to crutchfield and they assured me that no, infact it would do no damage to the deck...

Looking for another opinion!

Thanks

Theoretically it won't damage the deck....4ohms is LESS resistance than 8ohms, allowing your receiveer to push them more efficiently, so it might be a bit louder...and i've always been under the impression that cars mostly use 4ohms anyways... one thing to think about is if there are other speakers connected in parallel that are also 8ohms that would give you a 4 ohm load as well(two 8 ohm speakers in parallel) so if you have tweeters or something elsewhere running on the same channel.....it would give you just under 3 ohms........just don't turn it up all the way and you should be gravy

At least in the world of non-car audio, lower impedence is what you have to be worried about.

Your stock deck might not be able to handle the load.

The lower impedance of the new speakers vs. stock speakers might cause the deck to overheat and/or shutdown.
