For anybody who's been a server in a restaurant...

If any of you ATOTers have had experience serving in a restaurant, I wrote this article for you... check it out. And yes, this is a shameless plug. I apologize in advance... but I'm real proud of this article. It's for a comedy website I write for.... here's the link:

Insert Restaurant Name Here

Wow, how ridiculous can you get. You work as a waiter, most likely at a Fridays, and you bitch about people coming in and ordering water and normal things on the menu. You are there to SERVE.

Awful article and weak rant.

Stop bitching and bring me more water.

Probably a sarcasm meter incident. In case it's not, I'll just point out that I used to make $3.80 without tips. But then again, that was all the way back in 2005.

uhh, i order water all the time...

bah, this 'rant' is crap! Sure there may be SOME customers like that, but you make it seem like everyone is like this. I don't like it 🙁

How about get an education so you don't work as a waiter. You look like you're 26.

Edit: So thats the kind of stuff an education at Connecticut buys you eh?

You got that ambition baby, I see in your eyes, these week you're mopping floors next week it's the fries.

I agree, that is one of the worst rants I've read in a while ... and I did make a living as a waiter in a chain restaurant while in university. Never did I feel bad about getting someone a hot tea, or even a glass of water. If you hate your job that much, find something else where you won't have to interact with real people.

all waiters should get at least 20% , especially from your ilk

No, 20% is for excellent service. 0% is for crappy service. It's no longer a "tip" if it's required.

That's my guide, too, though for some bills I'll adjust up or down as well. $400, half of which is 3 bottles of wine? Adjusted down a little - all you did was bring me 3 bottles - you don't deserve $10 a bottle just to walk it from the bartender to my table and open it, and you're still getting a fat tip overall.

$4.50 tab at a diner? Way, way up, especially for good, friendly service. I've been known to tip over 100% in those situations.

Bottom line? For the most part, keep me from having to ask for anything that's not unusual. If I need to ask for water or refills on my drinks, there's something wrong and your tip will reflect that.

Where did you get that figure from?

I saw it written on one of the bathroom stalls at Bennigan's

Aw, I was hoping to see scientific calculations 🙁

I think half the time waiters see "4 waters" and think that there will be no tip, so they give crappy service, and then don't get a tip and then think they were right. I usually only get water, and if you can keep my glass filled, you'll get a good tip. I know you don't make the food, you just bring me stuff, so if you fail and bringing me stuff, I fail at tipping. If you succeed at bringing me stuff, the food can taste like barf and you'll still get a good tip.

This rant sucks.

isn't it ironic, the ones that tip the most are the easiest to serve? It's always the idiot trash who seem to think 5% is a gift bestowed upon you from the gods in return for your excellent service. Oh well, just blow 'em away with great service, then move on to the next table that knows how to tip.

More like a self-fulfilling prophecy, where you're nicer to the ones that you think will tip the most, and--surprise surprise--they do!
