Assuming you were in the frozen tundra without fire, how would you first boil the water to get the ice clear? 😕

you wouldn't have to because lakes aren't full of air like tap water is.

In my experience, when someone takes a series of photographs documenting some procedure, and the series abruptly stops right before it would be demonstrated that the procedure was a success, it's because he failed.
 
Yeh, I'm sure that making a lense from a chunk of ice would be a pretty intricate process. I just found in intriguing and thought I'd share.
 
heard of this when i was a kid. probably wouldn't work b/c the env would be too cold for things to set on fire easily
