New improved version (quieter fan, nickel plating) of the HDT-S1283:

Not to thread jack but, any news about when the red scorpion is going to hit cahnnels while I was away?

Then start your own thread....

Whoa, relax, did you not see the sarcasm written out quite plainly? I was trying to end a pissing match between you and avalon over a meaningless 2 post OT. I was just going to let a sleeping dog lay but, damn, can we just get back to Gerr's bitching or someone trying to defend their position that you have to have a TRUE to overclock? I mean seriously, this has taken up about 8 posts now just because I asked someone about a heatsink that was already getting mentioned in the thread. And you're telling me to grow up. There are mods, you're not one of them, let them decide when a conversation needs to get moved either to another thread or another forum and if you have a problem with how the mods are doing their jobs send Anand an e-mail about it, don't try and make yourself a de-facto mod by bullying people around. I've been here longer than you so don't think that you can step up and sound important and I'll go hide in a corner like some noob. Now, if you don't mind. Lets move on.

I have no idea. But I am hoping soon, because I am about to upgrade and will have to buy something over the next couple of weeks. Then I'll post my temps and any other findings about it. I'm not going to bother testing it for gravity anomalies. :p

It's already out! $24 and it's a beast. Benches!

Also even though AC7 Pro is a good cooler, it's inaccurate to say that it's almost as good as the top coolers when it wasn't even tested on a quad core processor. I've seen reviews where the $7 (after MIR) Cooler Master Hyper TX2 even beats the AC processor, making it an even better value. I don't know the exact wattage difference, but I would expect a Quad core at 3.4ghz to run a lot hotter than a dual core at 3.8ghz :) At this point, the difference between a great cooler and the top coolers is likely to become a lot more evident.

The Alpine 7 (with PWM) looks great, but...

Living in dusty Arizona, the problem I HAVE WITH ALL down-facing HSFs is, they tend to pack themselves up with dirt!

HERE IS A BEFORE & AFTER PIC of my old boxed-set Intel face-down cooler (approx 1 month of 24/7 usage).

It's kinda hard to see, but in the 'before' pic the HS is totally plugged - looks like the underside of a lawnmower!

In my experience, every face-down cooler I've owned has suffered this same design defect...

Towers, on the other hand, don't pack up any worse than, say, a PSU!

Sooooo, not to throw a damper on your enthusiasm for the Alpine 7, but keep that sucker clean! ;)

Vin, how do you breathe in your house ? hhee

I think the dust issue isnt just limited to downfacing coolers to be honest. My Tuniq Tower requires cleaning once every 2 months. Filters on the intake fans should help mitigate the dust issue a bit.

I have to agree with Vin(again? damnit) With towers the air and dust it carries has a direct path to exit the heatsink. With down-facing heatsinks the air has to turn a corner to exit the heatsink and tends to deposit all the dust into the heatsink when making that turn. I've actually gone as far as to make a custom fan mount for my XP-120 so that I can mount the fan with a filter on it. I have filters on both of my intakes but, my heatsink kept getting all clogged up anyway.

I'm sure he wasn't trying to say it's not an issue for tower style heatsinks but, simply that it's more of an issue for down-facing sinks.
