What you basically did was condense the OP's argument into one phrase and misinterpreted it in the process. There are definitely folks who may be willing to try 1440p and would like higher resolution, but are leery and hesitant due to potential framerate issues. That's my take on what the OP was trying to convey. It's a real concern for quite a few people.

I didn't see it as a means of demeaning those with lower end setups (your interpretation).

Which graphic card you would you recommend for 1440p / gaming, for medium AA / AF , and max details ?

290 is much better, much faster plus moar VRAM, good for possible future Crossfire setups.

Still, I'd say wait for 4K IPS displays to come out under 500 dollars, we shouldn't have to wait more than a year. And then get a good 20 nm high end card instead next year to go with it, DX12 should help some too. Spend your time waiting by saving.

One thing people don't talk about much when comparing these monitors is that msaa/aa in general causes flickering at edges. While the jaggies often look worse than the shimmering from antialasing in motion its still far from ideal. 1440p and 4k reduce the effect of pixel size and jaggies without the side effect of flicker. I think once that Asus rog 1440p 120hz monitor arrives we will see a lot of people using it.
 
One of the drawbacks to IPS monitors is response time, the time it takes a pixel to change color. This results in ghosting and to see appreciable smoothness increases, you need much faster response times than current IPS monitors offer.

exactly the question isn't about MSAA it's resolution vs smoothness or 1080p 120 hz TN (with blur reduction aka lightboost equivalents) or 1440p 60 hz with blur.

I guess greatly depends on the games you play. For FPS -> smoothness and response time rules.

People are going to need some serious setups to run those. I run the same rez and hz. 2X780ti classified's cant pust 120 fps in new games maxed.
 
Given much thought to 1440p but 4k does make a 1440p upgrade just seem so meh.:| Could be a long wait for 4k to become mainstream so most likely will be jumping on 1440p soon myself.

Yeah as long as you dont try 120 hz. You should be able to maintain 60 fps in most situations with AA/AF turned down. Personally dropping 700 on a GPU, 500+ on a monitor, and whatever you have into the rest of your build just to turn down settings sucks. I wanna turn it up to "11" considering the expense and tech involved. Goes to show you how the GPU manufactures have been complacent in just offering small upgrades and raising prices for the last few years. I also think the games have not been pushing it due to the low bar set by consoles.

When/IF developers make an effort to produce stunning games meant to be played on 4K machines its going to take hardware a long time to catch up.

I'm on a TN 1080p/60hz panel now and would like to upgrade but only want to make one jump. I don't want a 60hz 1440, and then have to get a 120hz or G-sync 1440 again, and then 4k, and then occulus etc etc etc.

I have a GTX780 which I assume is enough (eps without AA) for a while... but I'm just waiting for the next level to fully arrive. Basically to turn into what 1080 is today.

$300 for 24-27" IPS 1440p 120hz G-sync. If thats 2 years away why would I buy something inbetween?
 
I don't understand why it's a choice between TN 120Hz or 60 Hz IPS. And why we still don't have a 1440 IPS 120Hz panel.

Yeah but doesn't 24 fps divide correclty into 120 thus smoothing the picture? Feel free to laugh at me if that makes no sense, thats my thought i read that somewhere not even sure what it means answer.

Yes, that's the original purpose of 120hz TVs

They can also take a 60hz input and interpolate fake frames between, which adds lag because it needs at least two frames before it can start drawing the first
 
I did a big upgrade recently, but still keeping the old monitor as a second screen.
I went from U2412M, OK 1200p IPS panel too U2713H (1440p with 10 bit color) and the difference is astounding. Side by side with the same picture there are so many more colors at the 10bit panel, not that I had noticed anything wrong with the 24" panel before, but now I can't go back. And the 27" 1440p is great too, but I notice it's starting to tax my GPU (7970@1175/1500) in games.

the U2412M is an E-IPS panel 6-bit + FRC panel

While the U2713H is AH-IPS 1.07 billion (8-bit + FRC)

I would hope the colours look better on the 27inch screen since its has a better panel.
