FOP-38 Question!!

codeyf

Lifer
I currently have a FOP-32 in my system. Been thinking about bumping up to the 38.

My question is this, and it's regarding how loud the fan is. Am I really going to notice the sound of this fan in my SX1030 which already has 4 Antec 80mm fans going??

Tell me what you think!

Yes. It is loud. It is high pitched. You will most likely hear it over your present configuration.
I have a high-output Sunon 80mm drawing air in, and I can still hear the 7000rpm Delta over it.

It really does cool well, but it's better as a server cooler. Unless you always play music on your computer very very loud.

Imagine one of those small 1600watt hair dryers on low/med. It's like that.

It's LOUD. My parents can hear it in the basement, which is two floors below my bedroom. It's loud. Trust anybody when they say, "Yes, you'll hear it!"

What HS/F combo will provide a decent increase in cooling over my FOP-32, but isn't as loud as the 38?

you can always do the fan mod for the fop38 and get a fan adapter to put a quieter 80mm fan on it,... with roughly the same cooling power depending on the fan...

i have the FOP-38 delta fan and it is not as loud as people claim. it is funny you see these post about once a week and get the same results, 2 or 3 say it is so loud that people complain about. one even said it was as loud as hair dryer on high setting. i am setting right next to my case right now that doesn't have the outside on it and have no trouble with the noise at all. it is a low pitched whine sound but it DOES NOT sound that loud.

With the FOP 38/Delta I was getting about 55db from my case. Switching to a Sanyo Denki (I'll measure it when I get home) its quieter but also there is an aspect of the delta sound that is plain irritating beyond its actual volume.
Lets say for example you could hear a 30db level of
1: ocean waves
2: fingernails scratching a desk
3: teeth of a comb as a finger runs over it

its the quality that may be the most irritating not the volume itself although I still think its loud.

Many find the FOP to be that..

the Vantec FCE-62540D has the same fan as the fop38 but runs at slightly lower rpms, and is cheaper and larger. any word on whether this hsf is as annoying as the fop38?

My reply to this topic is the same all the time.. I love it loud, my case is on the desk right in my face and that damn thing sounds so powerful.. seriously though you get used to it, its not even a thought anymore..don't settle for 2nd best😀

That's what I did on my FOP 38. Myself and a buddy of mine that runs Bunker Mentality dreamed up a low cost 92 - 60mm fan adapter for my FOP. The performance is comparable to the Delta's with only 36db. Kyle posted the site on HardOCP this morning. Go check it out HERE

hmm 50 Decibels... I think 200 decibels is the sound of rocket when ur sitting on the launch pad... assuming you don't get vaporized..

The point is, the measurement in dbs is not exactly linear. =]

Codeyf,

Another option is to install the FOP-38 on a baybus and provide less voltage to it or turn it off when you don't want to hear it and crank it when you need it.
