Denver runs a run blocking system called 'zone blocking' where their o-linemen aren't assigned to a man when they run block. That usually leaves a lot of o-linemen free in space but it also leaves opposing d-linemen/linebackers on the opposite side of the rush free to pursue the runningback through the backside pursuit. The broncos o-line counters this by using cut blocks (diving at the knees and ankles of the opposing linemen). It's mainly used as a scare tactic to prevent the backside pursuit, but they've caused a TON of leg injuries using this cut blocking tactic.
