I hear stories like this alot and it really makes me think that the difference between poor and not so poor are their spending habits. I know some people who, if they had a dollar, they'd have to spend it.
What baffles me is that guy who obviously had the smarts and financial discipline to start a franchise somehow managed to blow it all.
dang, $20 million could get me a high class escort every night for 10,000 nights......
A former coworker of mine got $650k from an inheritance when his Parents were killed in a car accident in 2008. He put the money in the stock market and lost practically every penny of it within 3 years. The only thing he has to show for the money is a 2 year old Ford F-150 truck. Everything else lost in the markets.
I'm sure they have done well for their clients and even better for themselves.
I'm not saying they won't make you money, I'm just saying they will line you up to make money for themselves FIRST before they make YOU the money.

What a moron.
If you get a windfall of millions of dollars, how can you NOT put at least half of it in a retirement account?!?
Fuck, haven't had Donato's in over a decade, just looked and the closest one is 22 miles away.... I think I know what I am doing this weekend. What pizza chain? I was going to guess Donato's though the wikipedia article doesn't support that -- says the owner sold it but then bought it back.
east of chicago. basically a pizza hut knockoff iirc. The deep dish pizza was almost exactly the same. I haven't seen one of those in years.
I guess I know why. I moved out of northern ohio.
