A former coworker of mine got $650k from an inheritance when his Parents were killed in a car accident in 2008. He put the money in the stock market and lost practically every penny of it within 3 years. The only thing he has to show for the money is a 2 year old Ford F-150 truck. Everything else lost in the markets.

I hear stories like this alot and it really makes me think that the difference between poor and not so poor are their spending habits. I know some people who, if they had a dollar, they'd have to spend it.

What baffles me is that guy who obviously had the smarts and financial discipline to start a franchise somehow managed to blow it all.

I could give my wife a dollar and instead of using it to pay off a debt, it's likely to go to a cup of coffee. I'd use it to pay debt, once it's cleared, then when I have another dolla I'd get a purple drank like the ghetto kids do.
Opposites attract I guess.

Or a slightly lower class escort for 20,000 nights. The end result is the same...see how we think differently when it comes to finances? I could literally make pussy last twice as long and still get the same end result you would get....well minus the shots I will need to take afterwards, but you get the idea.

shame he didn't buy a couple of index funds, he would be ahead of 650$k by now

I'm sure they have done well for their clients and even better for themselves.

I'm not saying they won't make you money, I'm just saying they will line you up to make money for themselves FIRST before they make YOU the money.

;)

what do you think of real estate agents? Especially buyer agents who would benefit from pushing you toward more expensive homes because they get half of the 4-6% of the deal. Ours actually used lines like "it's not worth that much - you should only offer ___". You're still generalizing too much.

What pizza chain? I was going to guess Donato's though the wikipedia article doesn't support that -- says the owner sold it but then bought it back.
Fuck, haven't had Donato's in over a decade, just looked and the closest one is 22 miles away.... I think I know what I am doing this weekend.

east of chicago. basically a pizza hut knockoff iirc. The deep dish pizza was almost exactly the same. I haven't seen one of those in years.

I guess I know why. I moved out of northern ohio.

Been longer than that for me.. probably 15 years since I've had East of Chicago, and longer than that since I've had Donato's -- I haven't lived in Ohio for a long time now.

Because some people only know how to do one thing well. He knew how to run a pizza empire.

I think the problem then becomes that they get greedy and think they can double and triple that money. Then they take to many risks.
