So far I've got these from a professor who used to work in Phoenix:

1. If you like Korean BBQ (I know, you're Chinese, but still), go to a place called Takamatsu (I know, "Takamatsu Korean Restaurant" is like "O'Grady's Italien Pizzeria," but still) and tell the owner Richard that you know Bryan and Molly Ashenbaum, and he should take care of you. Remind him we were regular customers who moved to OH to Miami U if he gives you a blank look (he gives everyone that look). BEST spicy pork in the known universe, bar none. I think they make it with crack. NW corner of Country Club and Elliot (might be Arizona and Elliot, as Country Club changes names as it goes south).

2. While on the subject of food, the Italian restaurant at the corner of 40th St and Chandler Blvd in Ahwatuee is easily the best Italian place you'll ever eat. The owners sold it, but the wife is still the chef; I think it's now called "That Italian Restaurant" or some such. We new the original owners, MaryAnn & Ritchie. Also, try out Z-Tejas just east of the I-10 on Ray Road. Another can't-miss place.

Nothing expensive like a gourmet steak house. I'm talking about salt of the earth stuff here. If it's possible, I'm up for something like a world tour of food.
