Food Pyramid Is Changing

I never liked it anyway...

The food pyramaid is getting a makeover.

The Agriculture Department is redesigning the triangle-shaped guide that advises how many servings of different food groups people should eat every day. The new symbol is set to be released today.

Officials hope this will help persuade Americans to eat better.

The makeover includes using cups, ounces and other household measures to tell people how much to eat, rather than the current advice which uses number of servings......

Amen. Nobody ever looks at these anyway, besides maybe the teacher introducing it once in grade five or something. Total waste of tax dollars. Ignorant parents are not going to teach this to their kids, and kids are too stupid to bother caring about it themselves.

Maybe they'll psyche us out, and instead of being a pyramid (which it isn't in the first place) it'll be like... an octagonal prism. Modernizing EXTREME!

like anyone pays attention to it anyway? the regular food pyramid is probably fine as long as you exercise and watch how many calories you eat.

Why would the food triangle be developed by the department of agriculture? That is like letting your car salesman develop a maintenence schedule for your vehicle.

If they got rid of fast food all together, then america would stop being the fattest nation. Now how to get rid of the nations ignorance??

It's not because of the pyramid that the kids are getting fatter. They don't exercise enough or play outside even a minimal amount. What do you expect? Changing the food pyramid isn't going to change our kids. That has to be done by responsible parents who don't want their kids to die of obesity at age 40. The first step is to get rid of all junk food and distributors thereof(like some people suggested).

How about we get rid of your ignorance, first?

The explosion in obesity rates does not correlate with the popularity of fast food. The obesity epidemic started 20 years after fast food became very common and popular.

Nope, the one cultural change obesity correlates with is the advent of cable/sat TV, video games, and the Internet. And what do people do when they sit on their asses all day? They MUNCH.

So while snacking and snack foods are a problem, the lack of activity is the main problem that leads to weight gain, AND overeating.

Active people are not only thin because they are active, but because you can't eat or munch while you're being physically active. They eat less because they are moving more.

This mindless blaming of fast food, or ANY food for obesity is much like blaming guns for crime. Not only is it wrong, it's ignorant of history and the facts.

Don't take away my junk foods just because some fatty mcfatties can't get out and exercise every once and a while 🙁.

Junk food isn't to blame! LEAVE MY JUNK FOOD ALONE!

"If you can't take 30 minutes to exercise each day, you don't deserve a hot date."

Right. It is the fast food industries fault. People aren't to blame. No. Of course not. You want Americans to be thinner? Why not try to get people to take responsibility for their actions?

There you go.

This guy ate McDonald's for a month and ended up losing 17 pounds, and lowered his cholesterol and triglycerides along with it.

How did he do it? Reasonable portion sizes and reasonable exercise.

Very easy to do.

The Supersize Me farce was a lesson in over eating and force feeding, not the dangers of fast food. You could get the same results with your mother's cooking.

In other news, the same idiot who made the Supersize Me trash is now going to make more trash on social and political subjects. :| Like we need more misinformation, huh?

I think it's good that the new pyramid will finally get rid of the "servings" crap ratings. What the heck is a serving?

Fascist much?

Generalize much? I agree that people need to take responsibility for what and how much they eat but it's also the fast food companies' fault for not providing a healthy meal alternative to the greasy burgers.

The alternative is to not go to a fast food restaurant if you don't want a greasy burger.

Besides, lots of fast food restaurants are starting to head in that direction.
