I don't think I've ever had food poisoning, but I think I'm immune to many things. Worst case was maybe a little diarrhea from something I ate, but always a one-shot deal. Over and done in a couple hours.

When I was younger, I used to drink water straight from a lot of streams that I probably shouldn't have. Never even a burp. I've eaten plenty of food left out for too long, including three day old pizza ("Who forgot to put the pizza in the fridge when we left on Friday?"). I eat raw eggs and love them (you have to chew them so you can taste them). I'm not real careful when it comes to cross-contamination in the kitchen. I'm aware of it and take precautions, but I'm not anal about it.

It is an interesting question as to whether or not growing up with sterile water etc is a good idea. Like peanut allergies it appears that if you introduce peanuts to kids susceptible to peanut allergies early enough they never develop the allergies. Also, prior to modern times humans were able to drink from the same unfiltered streams that other wildlife does and survive just fine.

My guess is when they have this all figured out they will be able to provide a vaccine or oral treatments to build immunities for most things that bug us. I'd dearly love to be done with my seasonal allergies...

Had campylobacter some years ago (confirmed with stool test), not sure of the origin. Shit gets really real when you start passing frank blood. 10+ years later, I still don't think my bowels are completely normal after taking several bottles of different probiotics. Some of these bugs can trigger inflammatory changes that are long-term if not permanent.

The only thing worse than food poisoning is food poisoning when you're traveling. Happened to me last fall in Albuquerque. Luckily my system cleared itself out the morning before the flights home but I felt like crap for the next 4 days. Yuck.

Ironically I felt something similar this last Tuesday in Colorado Springs. My two coworkers felt it too. Must have been breakfast at the hotel. Luckily we all felt better by dinner without any incidents. Blech.

My thought of the worst possible version of hell is to have gastroenteritis for eternity. Don't get it as much now, but when I was in my late teens and through my twenties it seemed to be an every year affair. Now its about every 5 -7 years. Last time was in 2011. I'm scared.

I don't have any now, but its a good idea to keep some Phenergan on hand to control the nausea after the first couple of throw-ups. Once you get to the point of dry heaves its not doing your system any good to let it go on.

Feeling much better tonight. Haven't vomited since this morning and my appetite is back.

Sooo tired though. I'm off to bed now.

This is only the second time I've had it.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the well wishes.
