It's easy to eat healthily and not spend a ton. However, that would be not using organic foods. I don't know what the premise is of the movie, but I do feel our foods are probably overdone on insecticides and carcinogens, but it does make the food cheaper.

I'd like to see this movie in any case.

Good idea. I'd like to see it but am not sure I want to see some disturbing animal treatment.

I heard about this from one of my customers. He's a lib so he was all over it even though he's in the F'n CORN business. :p
Just from the trailer it looks like just another anti Corporate movie that tosses in Big Ag bashing for good measure.

I'll likely see it at some point but really people - without the modern improvements in Ag you see today - yes even in the factories - you'd be paying astronomical prices for your food and you'd also see shortages. Can certain things be improved? Sure, not everyone is a "good" player, but there are bullies/"bad" people in every market.

Here's a thought - if you don't like how your chicken is raised - buy local free range chickens. If you want "clean" beef - buy from a local farmer who raises them like you want. If you don't like X - find local solution - then get back to me on how much more work and VALUE it is for you.

Well, I think it's kinda funny what some people "THINK" is healthy.

Fruit and Vegetables? Unless you are growing it yourself or live next to a farm that is organic and doesn't spray crap loads of pesticides on your produce... You might as well, gone down to BK and ordered a Whooper value meal.

Eat Chicken and Fish because it's better then beef, again, like most people they buy the shit they sell at the local store, farm raised chickens that are pumped full of hormones and antibiotics to keep em alive till they make it to the slaughter house. Next? How about some Farm raised fish? YUM! YUM!!!! It's disgusting! Oh Tuna! That's really healthy ... Well, don't eat it more then once a month if your pregnant boy there is some food for thought! Mercury anyone? Heavy metals? YUMMY! That tuna sand is glowing!

Milk? Orange/apple/ etc...etc...etc... Juice? yeah! You gotta love it, after it's pasteurized 99% of all it's nutritional value is destroyed so they just add the vitamin D and C back in. Might as well just drink water and take a Vitamin C tablet!

Damn, I don't even want to mention the Water!!! You do filter your water right? Hahaha! Why bother?

Unless you grow and raise your own produce and catch all your fish like in Hawaii, and Filter your water... You might as well be eating at McDonald's.

It's harder to eat healthy. We buy at Whole foods and our local farmers market, but it takes time and more money. Cheap fast food is what is killing us

People do not have to eat perfectly healthy. They just need to eat better than they do now. That is the problem people take shit to the extremes. Ultra healthy I am sure is expensive and a pain in the ass. There is plenty of room in the middle to eat sensibly and keep weight under control.

if we can do what this movie is talking about, it will help with HEALTH care bigtime.

the ONLY way to fix what's wrong with our "health care" system is to actually care about making people healthy... not getting rid of symptoms of illnesses caused by shitty health.

Nice to see other people who get it. Getting the cost of health care down starts at home. The congress should look at companies like safeway that have kept health care costs down by giving insentives to be healthy.

These guys should be helping congress write a health care reform bill. They understand that it starts at home.

That isnt even remotely true.

Mercury in tuna? Hormones in meat? Pasteurizing sapping nutrition? Fluoride in tap water? Pesticides in produce? What exactly is not remotely true here? Ericlp is absolutely right, there is a huge disconnect from what people think is healthy and what is healthy because of the molesting and polluting our food, even "healthy" food, is subjected to.

Actually, that is the point of the movie: you don't.

Whether you think you do is the illusion.

The "industry" here is controlled by a half-dozen or so companies that are constantly at war, either through individual intimidation or through government lobby, with the "little guys" trying to improve food in our country.

I have seen the movie.

And all I can say to everyone else is, GO SEE IT! NOW!

Heh, it actually is pretty easy to eat healthy, unless you dont buy your own food (underage perhaps), even on a slim budget. I changed my eating habits (actually following weight watchers) and it doesn't take a lot of effort at all.

Even if what you say is true, it wouldn't make sense to eat McDonalds. It's still going to be healthier to eat processed food rather than processed + McDondalds processed food.

Is there any proof that pesticides are harmful? Or trace amounts of mercury are harmful? Fluoride is a good thing; it naturally occurs in ground water and mineral water.

well I think you guys are going overboard saying you can eat McDonalds instead of fresh produce even if it is mass marketed bs. If you moderate your fast food intake (1x6months) and cut the red meat down to 1x every 2 months or so and eat fresh greens and veggies you will feel better. If you drink water when thirsty instead of diet coke you will look better, even tap water. Eat fruit when you crave sugar.

Everything begins to kill you from the moment of birth but that doesn't mean bk or pizzahut are ok.

No, whats sad is people like you telling others to "put down that apple and eat this whopper" because the apple may have trace amounts of pesticides. You are a fool.

You do understand that mercury naturally exists in the ocean, right? How long have people eaten fish from the ocean? I am NOT saying it isn't harmful (to an arguable degree) but get real.

When I shop for groceries, I buy 70-80% organic, but I definitely will not fork out $8 for something organic when the non-organic is $1-2. If the price isn't too far off, organic is the way to go.

What we really need to do is get some movement in the direction for people's food choices, and then hopefully we can make more inroads into making "healthy" food such as fuits and vegetables less adulterates with chemicals.

For you to say that people should choose McD over buying fruits and vegetables at the supermarket is rediculous. It is extremists like you that prevent any real change from ever happening, because nothing is ever good enough.

Wow, you are out there man. You go on eating Big Macs every day, and Ill eat chicken, rice, salad, fruit. We'll see who is "unhealthy" after 2 years.

Hey, here is an experiment for you. You should make your own documentary where you only eat non-organic fruits, veggies, and fish for 30 days straight. I bet your results will be a tad different than the guy in "Super Size Me" who could have died.

When it comes to Food, I think the real big issue is the consolidation in the Industry and the fewer places of Production. Now when something goes amiss(E-Coli, Salmonella, etc), huge volumes of Product is affected(potentially) and vast amounts of People are at risk. Certainly things like Irradiation would help to minimize such risks, but such concentration of Production has many other downsides as well.
