My friend and I were discussing staying healthy. He claims that sandwiches are one of the most unhealthy things you can eat; going onto say that when you eat a sandwich the meat or whatever is in the middle is suppose to go into the large intestine while the bread goes into the smaller.

He says that because you eat it all at once they all get lumped up in the large intestine and thus is bad for you. When I called him on his info he said he heard it from one of his health nut friends. My friend is not typically known for being a fountain of knowledge and thus I feel I need to confirm whether this is true.

I've always thought otherwise.

Sounds like BS to me. They both go through both intestines. Is he suggesting I should eat lettuce in the morning, wait a few hours, eat some meat, wait a few hours, eat some grain, etc.?

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. It's not like the big and small intestines are two different paths which food can take. And there are different processes in each intestine that each piece of food has to undergo. Can't pick and choose.

That's what I said, and he said that it is unhealthy to do that all at the same time with lets say, eating a sandwich. I got a kick out of this actually, I knew there's no way it can be true.

He is completely wrong.

Each intestine absorbs different nutrients by chemical means, it does not matter what else is passing through it.

If anything he should be worried about mineral absorbtion and receptors.

The small intestine does most of the digesting, the large mostly pulls the water out and turns it into the turds we all know and love.

Punch your friend in the balls for us.

LOL.....

Maybe I'll use my foot so I won't have to actually make hand contact...:p

Anyways, I knew he was wrong, and his health nut friend is a dumbass which I think I met once.

Thanks for confirming this.

omg, your friend is a tard. By the time you chew and swallow, there is no longer any separation between meat/veg/whatever, it's just a ball of food and saliva, called a bolus.

btw, not an MD :)

When you eat things, you chew. If you ate all of the stuff separately, it'd still end up in your stomach, where ACID dissolves anything that's digestable. Things like nuts and seeds don't digest.....meat and bread generally do break down quite a bit.

Your friend has been fed a B.S. sandwich and is trying to force a bite or two down your throat. He might have been sick the day they taught this in science class in the 2nd grade.
