Welp mom has decided that for whatever reason she would like a food dehydrator. Dont ask me why, shes weird like that. So any of you out there with experience I could use some advice. I need a good brand name company to start comparing prices against. I dont want to buy her crap, but also it has to be relatively inexpensive(under 100 if i can help it). Any ideas?

I got a Ronco off Amazon for like $35... it's alright. It lacks a fan though, I've been debating modifying it with an extra 80mm case fan I have laying around. A fan will make it dehydrate your food a LOT faster, which will save on electricity bills... and you can eat it faster. I imagine a fan would also give you better results, because it would even out the temperature throughout the dehydrator.

Amazon.com has an inexpensive unit with a fan, but I don't have personal experience with it.

You can make some darn fine beef jerky in a food dehydrator. You can also make some really crappy beef jerky in one.
