Font issues....?

A guy at work emailed us all asking this question... no one's come up with an answer yet, and I was wondering if anyone here might know something.... this is the email he sent:

_______________

Hello Everyone,
I have a user with a font problem that I can solve. I am looking for
anyone who has an idea why this would be. Here is the situation. The
user has OfficeXP on the machine and Outlook 2000( this is to sync with
his pocketpc.) He is using the palatino font for his resume. It
displays and prints with large spaces between each character. Example.
Andrew would appear "A n d r e w". When I open the file on 2 two machines
in my office the font appears fine. I have tried a uninstall / reinstall
of word. And gettting the font files from the XP machine in my office and
installing them. Any ideas or leads would be great.

Anyone have any ideas?

in which application is the file saved? are there spaces if he uses a different font instead? is it possible that some program is not reading unicode correctly and interpreting every byte as a character instead of every two bytes?

it's saved in Word. Also, I think it's just that one font that is adding the spaces.
After collaborating we've thought about deleting/recreating the normal.dot file to see if that might be screwed up on the client's end since it works on our guy's computer.
I'll update with more info as I get it, and if anyone else has any suggestions until then, it'd be appreciated.

but elbirth said that the problem occurs while displaying the file as well -- not just printing it. i don't think it's a print driver problem if it shows up wrong while being viewed in word.

can you try reinstalling the font?

yeah, it occurs while just previewing as well. I was talking with the guy and he said he had tried deleting the font on the client machine and copying a copy from his comp to it, and still nothing...
I haven't talked with him in a few hours though, so I'm not sure if he's got it sorted out or not
