Font Corruption in Windows XP

Hi,

Yesterday I finally took the plunge and upgrade my Win2K installation to Windows XP (didn't format first). I also upgraded my graphics card to an Radeon 8500 at the same time. At the moment I am using a fairly old XP driver from ATI but I am in the process of trying to find out what is the best driver to use.

In the meantime I am having two strange font corruption problems. On the Windows Start Menu the fonts look fuzzy (kinda like when you are running a laptop LCD screen on a non standard resolution). Also, I use CoolMon (which should work under XP) to monitor the stats on my desktop and the fonts on that are also currupted.

Someone suggested it could be ClearType but I have tried enabling/disabling it to no effect. The icon text fonts are fine.

Any other suggestions?

Edit : I am now using the latest unofficial Radeon 8500 driver and the problem still persists. Suggestions?

Its an old sh!tty CRT 17" Tatung monitor.

I have a feeling it could be combination of the ATI drivers and the fact that I upgraded rather than did a clean install - perhaps I should just do a format/reinstall 🙁
