Follow up to alcohol thread.

Because they consider that weird that you don't.

I used to be the one that said "I don't drink." and I have have several friends who didn't all the way through high school.

Now I think, why the hell wouldn't you drink, you big fat pussy?

If someone said "I don't drink", then fine. It's when people that make it a great big deal out of nothing that it becomes annoying.

i would say that it isn't even really an issue of morals, rather lifestyle choice. i'm guessing that people who ask others why they don't drink is b/c they're just so used to the social drinking scene that they're curious as to why others don't also live that lifestyle..

Not only is it unheard of, but it's un-Russian not to conform....let's hear it.

Because some want to know if you are just being a prude, a rebel or have legitimate reasons.

I think I'm just going to start asking people why they drink. 😛 It will be funny seeing the expressions on their faces.

Probably because you are a freak.

I turn down the offer of a drink simply by saying no thanks. And then it's pressured, "oh come on, have one." I respond by saying I don't drink. I typically encounter a "why not?" or a "just this once." I say I'm underage. "That's okay, we're not anywhere that anyone will find out." I then say that if I drink I will explode. That tends to end the conversation with some confused looks. If it doesn't, I explain that in fact, I'm on medications that don't allow me to drink.

Accept my first refusal (and don't try to push drinks on me because I'm a girl and you think you'll get somewhere) and you don't have to know the gritty details. I have my reasons, not everyone needs to know them.

Like already said, in this society it's expected of you.

Why do I catch crap for having a pocketwatch? For telling my doc I don't want to take medicine?

You're just expected to be like everyone else. Nonconformity=bad

I tell you what, you ask the person asking you why they drink and see what they say. Every person that I've turned the question around on cannot answer (though with thought they might, it puts them on the spot).

As a person over at [M] has in his sig:

You laugh at me because I am different. I laugh at you because you are all the same.

"Is there a problem with being a freak?" she demanded, her hands on her hips.

ooOOoo...HotChic reminded me another reason why i don't drink...i'm a minor (still 20 years old).

Exactly what everybody else said. It's all about your social life. I grew up with both my older sisters being in the 'in' crowd and having parties and drinking, and they started me on it too. All my friends were my sister's friends little siblings (most) and so they all grew up with it too. Anybody in my group of friends who didn't drink was going against the norm.

Outside of my group there were people I knew who didn't drink and it didn't matter, but it seemed to matter if somebody within my group didn't.

You get the idea. Non-drinkers are no-fun. You gotta drink to be cool.

Obviously then it's not you being cool, it's the alcohol. "Cool in a can, for those who just can't cut it themselves!"

That's harsh... That was a total joke...anyone who knows me, knows of my bad habits. I'm a systems admin, thus I drink. Check out Scarpozzi's bar. If anyone want's a drink, come by...I just bought a brand new bottle of crown, 2 bottles of Stag's Leap Merlot, and a 6 pack of Pete's Winter Brew (ahh rasberries!).

actually, i know i miss out on a lot of fun b/c i don't drink. I'm the youngest in my motorcycle club and they all hang out at the bars or go places where they'll be doing a good share of drinking. I feel so out of place sometimes when i'm with them...but there's always at least one other DD with me.

The hand on the hips... i know where this is heading, he thought, and poured himself another glass of Zinfandel...

Your turn... 😉
