No its not. Not even CLOSE. GM isnt trying to "fight" with anyone except maybe, MAYBE, the Viper. And the Corvette was never directly pitred against the Viper to begin with. And seeing as the GT outperforms both the Viper and Corvette by a substantial margin, and also costs twice as much (Give or take, depending which car we choose) I wouldnt say the Viper OR Corvette are geared against the GT. Chevy has quite enough making the Vette run with the Viper on its hands to start worrying about making their 50k poor mans sports car run with a 150k super car.

The C6 w/ the LS2 is rated right around 400hp - if it's as fast as the C5 Z06 w/ what, 395, then that's right dab square in Viper territory. Actually I take it back - you're right in that the Z06 isn't going to do battle with the GT - it's the Blue Devil that is. (I guess a super-Z06, if you will)

Agreed. But HP numbers alone dont tell how the car performs. Dont get me wrong, the Corvette does run well with a Viper by everything I've read, but nonetheless, the Viper is a faster car. And Dodge has ALOT more growing room on the 8 liter then Chevy has on their 5.7 liter.
As for the Blue Devil.... Proofs in the pudding. And right now, theres no mix 😉

I dont see them building one personally. But who knows?

Also, dont think I'm hating on the Corvette by any means. Its my dream car (realistically). I'm just being objective about it.

I'd take a Viper for the money.

It's not quite as fast as a GT, but the SRT-10 will have more power than anybody could ever ask for on the streets, and can be driven on a daily basis.

Dave Hill at the Chevy plant said, point blank, that the new Z06 will be the fastest production car ever built in America. When asked: "Faster than a Viper" I asked? "Faster than even the new Ford GT" he replied.

There's no reason to doubt it should be a good battle between the GT and the C6 Z06.
