I've gotten an offer from the guy for an even trade now. My V5 for his Vistek (sp?) GF2 GTS 32MB DDR. Would you guys take the trade?

yes, GTS should will be a faster card with better/future driver support as the Voodoo5 will not have any new drivers released.

<< Well then, make the trade. >>

You think it's the right decision? I really respect everyones opinion on this board and would like to know what you all think and would do🙂

I dont know what to tell you, I have different needs than you, and Im sticking to my V5 for now. But you play different games so I can't really speak for you.

What is the reason that is depends on the games? Does the V5 do well on older ones and the GTS do better on newer ones (because of new drivers)?

Well, I play UT, which is Glide optimized, also Deus Ex which is based on the UT engine. And I play NFS4 which is Glide optimized.

Even though I have a V5 and am quite happy with it, I'd switch cards in a second! The main reason would be updated drivers. The V5 is a great card, especially for older Glide games, but if you ever plan on ugprading to Windows XP, you'll be screwed since the V5 doesnt even run 3D apps in XP at all. Drivers make a world of difference, just ask anyone with a Radeon and Win2k.

the voodoo5 has glide, better fsaa, most likely better 2d quality, most likely better 16 bit 3d quality.
the voodoo5 does very good in most d3d games, the gts does better in most opengl games.
would I trade my V5 for a gts 32 mb? No way but that's me, and I play different games than you do, would I trade my v5 for a good (grade) geforce2 pro? maybe?? I had a radeon in my pc for a month: I missed glide so the V5 went back in for good.

if I remeber right your using win2K, it's does make a differents
how about partioning your hardrive or add a HD and have win98 or ME in for games.

why does he want a V5? to play around or experiment?

i think if you don't plan on getting a new video card (ie, GF3) anytime soon, you should make the trade. The V5 is better for glide optimized games. Are you gonna see any glide games come out from now on? I don't think so.

I changed over to Win98 SE now.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm still I little stuck on what I want to do. I don't plan on buying a card for at least a year (no GF3 for me anytime soon🙂) Would that change anybodys opinion?

No offense, but...

I don't know who's dumber, the guy who's trading you a GF2 for a V5
or you for thinking this is a hard decision! 🙂

Take the gf2, the V5 will be really slow with the next generation games you mentioned.

None taken🙂 Thanks for your opinion!

The Voodoo5 will not be that slow in future-type games. Games like Serious Sam run beatifully on mine, and I am drooling at the thought of FSAA on Max Payne.
2yrs down the road? I get another card.
Make the trade? I would not only because I play FlightSims. If I didnt, then it would be a good trade.

I still agree...go with the Geforce2, some people love their Voodoo cards, personally I hated mine and found it slow and annoying, if the games you play aren't optimized for Glide...which most newer games are not, I wouldn't even consider something from the Voodoo line of graphic cards anymore.

Glide is 3dfx's saving grace. Even with a V3 3000, UT and Deus Ex play beautifully. Q3A runs pretty darn well, too. But I haven't tried CS yet...
