Folks who own dogs...do you see your dog as just a dog or a member of the family?

I'm so attached to my dog, she's a member of our family. She sleeps under the covers with me (damn dog thinks she owns the bed;)), she sits on my lap whenever I'm at the computer and she sits at my feet when I eat. She screams for me when I walk through the door and she's just a bundle of joy.

So the rest of you with dogs, how would you classify them?

Ohh, and let's keep this a dog thread. Cat's are a fuggin' disease plaguing the earth :D

When I had a dog, I just saw it as a dog, although the kids probably saw it as somewhat like a sibling. I don't think I can get that attached to an animal (think that 's from the trauma of having to lose the family dog when I was really young, but that's another story). I still respect those that give their pets family status though.

I like my cat a lot more than I liked a lot of members of my family. I know it would be the same for a dog. Better listeners and better advise from them.

Sorry, NFS4, but if you ever had a good cat you might change your mind. I got to play with a 150 LB Florida Panther (endangered) last weekend and Id like to see a dog like that one. :D

I'm thinking the person who voted
Get real, it's just a fuggin' dog!
doesn't really own a dog. Our dog (Neeko - pics will be up soon) is definitely a member of the family. :D

I wouldn't say that I think of my dogs as members of my family. Why? I hate most of my family, I actually like my dogs...

Huh?? How so?

I have a little Toy Poodle. She weighs 7 lbs and she's a house dog. She sleeps under the covers next to my stomach or behind my back...wherever she can stay the warmest.

My dog, Buttons

i don't know - i just have this thing where animals should not be sleeping in the same bed as another human being.

Our dog is definitely a member of the family. And yes he sleeps with us (girlfriend and I) in the same bed depending on the season. He's a tiny one and gets cold really easily, so often times if he sleeps alone he'll be cold all night, especially during the winter. During the summer he'd rather sleep on the ground where it's cooler. He always wants on my lap too whenever I'm on the computer or watching TV, and he'll always move close enough to sit or lay right next to me whenever possible.

He also does this begging thing sometimes when you're eating - he'll sit straight up and kind of wave his paw up and down at you to get your attention. He can sit up like that pretty much indefinitely, and weird thing is we never taught him anything like it. I haven't been able to get a pic of him while he's doing that yet, because he stops as soon as he sees the camera. :(

Pics if anyone's interested:

Part of the family for sure.

And all my dogs can sleep with me if they want, even the big ones:)
