Folding@home users?

Yes, there are some Folding@Home users (I am one). However, I don't understand the second question you are asking?

For more information about Folding@Home, check out Folding@Home's Home page @ Stanford
If you decide to join the TeamAnandtech Folding@Home team, please select team 198 as your team id.

well, I'm running Folding@home too (on my 2 systems). What I was asking was that every now and then you see a thread about DF (distributed folding, right?). But none about F@h. So it seems most are using DF. But why?

Can't answer the 2nd question; as to the first, I was in with the project for a while as an alternative to strictly SETI(a vacation of sorts), but I've gone back to SETI as my primary. I may yet turn another machine loose on the project again though. 😉

Well its quite simple. It was deemed that even though both have folding in the title the projects were different. Given that F@H was more to be first and had better looking web pages and speil. Once the numbers were derived it appeared that the other folding project in a short period of time would produce more results and has a broader technical base for the source code to be rewritten for mor performance with the -rt switch and across more platforms where F@H doesn't expand the source code. Given as it is the algorythm can be refined and more scientific interpitation defined to refine the folding science which can in one respect tell you what you should not search for cause it has been proven to be a fruitless avenue so time won't be waited in the future on that type of fold avenues.
Hence we as TeamAndtech could move into the top 20 positions for our status of producing capibility in the rankings of Team projects.
Then given the prowess of m0ti the cause if further carried forward except a few of us that are doing a MTR with SETI only for 30 days and now less shall return to carry on the toarche even further.
So with a glad heart join the fabulious DF and put your cares asid of F@H and be truely enlightened by all my brillant BS hahaha

Hey Muttley,

I could almost understand that. I think you should have another beer or 2, and things will truly become "clear as mud". 🙂😀🙂😀

Smaller projects (those that aren't seti, pretty much) seem to go in spurts of interest. A while back there was a large interest in FAH, but it died down quite a bit and there isn't many FAH threads anymore. Then there was the Distributed Folding surge. That one's still going (thanks to m0ti's great stats threads! 😀 ) but the team production has died down a bit-- hopefully it can pick back up though. Now, there is a push for D2OL, and daily stats threads for that as well. So... well, just because there aren't a lot of threads for a certain project doesn't mean that people aren't doing them. I guess. 😉

Some just want to race, some want to do it for altruisitic reasons, some do it because a loved one is suffering from a disease that FaH is studying.
Right now we have 59 active folders out of 181 ( alittle less than a 3rd ) and are still in 16th place! Not bad when you consider that 6 months ago we were in 149th place 🙂

I'm still folding. I switched from Seti (hit my goal) to Genome @ Home (Found out they stopped development and merged with F@H)

So here I am crunching for F@H and just added a XP 2000+ and pushed my fleet to 7 computers 😀

I think once a team settles down on a project the active members usually settles in as well. Seems to be around 30%.

wow, just been checking your stats. Few thousands WUs, high scores.... oi 😀 No wonder the AT Team is on #17 with your fleets 😀 I'm only on pos 134 😱 though I would be on 120 if the FAH client wouldn't have entered a wrong name... lol, and my old box is still crunching on its first WU (I guess it will be over its deadline soon :-/ )

What speed system are you running?

heh, Celeron 366@458 and P1 133. Yes, I know they are slow like hell, but well, better than nothing. I'll be trying to recue a WU by letting it complete on the Celeron so I finish it before the deadline.

Hehe yeah don't bother with the P1 133 it won't even finish in time.
400Mhz I think is the minimum for the WU to return before the deadline I think.
My fleet consists of

1) XP 2000+
2) Athlon 1G @ 1.2G
3) Celeron 333 @ 375
4) P2 400
5) P2 350
6) P2 350
7) P3 600 * 625

well, its almost able I guess. The WU which took around 2 hours on the P133 (per frame of course) takes around 30 minutes on my Celeron which is pretty close to the 500 MHz Celeron they use for benching. So the Celeron is 4 times faster. As they calculate time the Celeron 500 takes times 2.5 the P133 is a bit too slow. But then I can let it calculated a bit and then let my Celeron continue while he continues on the other WU... eh... whatever 😕 Nevermind, I think will set the system to take GAH units as they seem to have no deadline. Damn... and I was hoping to have at least 2 systems crunching. But I must say you have a pretty nice fleet 🙂

hehe complicated system you got going there 😉
You might want to switch the p133 to G@H (I have one 200MMX on that right now)
Or I think ECCP is really suited to REALLY slow computers, so I hear.

yeah, but there is no ECCp anymore 😛 Solved. Look around 😛 Well, I think I will indeed switch to GAH cos I don't have to install anything new then.
