I'm upgrading my pc to an athlon 64 x2 4200+(socket 939) with an ATI x1950 Pro 512mb.

Now what is my best option for folding, stats wise.
1. SMP client, as this produces substantially more PPD than 2x console clients.
or
2. 1x GPU client + 1 x console client?

is it possible to run the SMP client with the GPU client? I would expect this to bring best results, but I'm pretty sure they can't be run on the same PC.

Look at this post as a bump with some general info added.

The SMP benchmark computer has four cores AND rather large L2 cache. Some WUs need that large L2 cache or they can take a long time to finish (so long that the deadline will pass and you won't get any points). So you have to be careful if not running a four core or if trying to run too many clients.
Some dual core/CPU rigs may not even make the deadlines on these cache intensive WUs.

Here is a link with some more info.

Thanks Gleem, that link is a great help. I found a bit of info last night, that also points me in the direction of option 2. I'll also try setting the gpu client to a lowish % of the core (35%) and see if i can run another instance of the console client with out slowing the gpu down to much. Parts should arrive this week sometime.

IMO, eve for a dual-core, if yoi have a C2D@3 ghz or better, the SMP client can give you 1500 PPD. The GPU client will take the GPU and one of the CPU's, so even though it can get close to 1000 PPD, the other core can then do only 300 or so, and produces more heat IMO, so I do the SMP client on both. On my quad-cores, I get 3000 PPD.
