I'd like to thank @[H]Coleslaw and @pututu for their help in organizing this challenge series. :)

The challenge will start at 12:00 UTC January 23rd (time 0 stats) and ends 12:00 UTC on January 30th.

Here's the link to the thread in the [H] forum.

Last year's race thread on the [H] forum: Link
Last year's race thread on the Anandtech forum: Link

Details:
1) [H] total team Folding@home points vs. the points of Team Anandtech members who sign up for the challenge.
2) Team Anandtech members must sign up for the challenge before the start date. I will not add racers once the challenge starts.
3) To clarify, there's no need for [H] members to sign up. I will take the total output of [H] on FAH during the race.
4) I'll collect stats from EOC and will post updates every 12 hours.

Team Anandtech members must sign up to participate!

I'm in, at 47m ppd. Its above feeezing now, and last month broke the bank on electricity. Nothing below a 2080TI.

Endgame124 - Endgame124

I'll be in at the same amount I was for the December race - about 3m per day. I am going to be right next door to microcenter on Friday morning, so hopefully that may change.

Heck, who needs Microcenter? I just not my notification from my EVGA waitlist on a 3070ti - it will be here next week, which gives me plenty of time to get it installed before the race!

I have been on all those lists, and nothing... But maybe I was only choosing the 3080TI's. Anyway, my 3070TI is doing 5.8m ppd right now, that is what you can expect on linux with cuda.

Depending exactly when the shipment arrives, I may not have time to put out on Linux. I’ll drop it in a windows box to test it out for a few days, then probably do a mint install to replace my old Fedora install. If I run into issues with mint, it will go back in the windows box for the race.

I had to reinstall mint on my new 5950x when I put the 3070TI in it. Mint 19.2 BTW. It took me like 10 minutes or less for the OS, and another 10 minutes or so for F@H and BOINC, including the sharing setup. I won't to mint 20, as the install is a lot harder for cuda and the card.

Also, its now only doing 4m ppd, different unit.(17804) 4,189,634 to be exact. And my card is the 3797, the FTW, $830 MSRP. I just saw they have a $610 card that is not much slower. That will be my next one, if they ever are available.

Do you have a link to a mint 19.2 guide for setting up cuda and F@H? It was a serious PITA to do in Fedora.

Its too easy.... Install mint, say yes to install 3rd party drivers. When done, choose driver update from the welcome menu, and pick 495 (probably the recommended one). Also so these two lines before installing F@H
(may not even be required, but I did)

sudo apt install ocl-icd-opencl-dev

sudo apt-get -y install python-gnome2 mesa-common-dev freeglut3-dev nvidia-settings gedit

After F@H packages (just click on them on F@H page, and install the 2.) Do:
cd /var/lib/fahclient

sudo wget http://fah-web.stanford.edu/file-releases/public/GPUs.txt

Then fire up fahcontrol and add the GPU client(will show under education in the menu), and maybe also the remote access by adding ,192.168.1.1-192.168.1.255 to the two IP places

sudo service FAHClient stop
sudo service FAHClient start

If it says disabled after the install, just reboot and it will work.

Les than 1/2 hour from start of mint to finish of EVERYTHING including F@H and BOINC.

Disclaimer: I have a 5950x and a PCIE 4.0 NVME drive, and installed using a USB 2.0 stick. Yours may take longer.

And make sure to post back here how easy it actually was....

BTW, my 3070TI is now as 4.35m ppd

Please forgive me.... I'm now trying out Ryzen Hydra and CoreCycler to the Nth-degree. I'll be back in a month after a month of resets... :) And life lost?

I like this stuff and I think I might be sick? I have read that with Zen3 that 2% more was easy. True! But 3% can be tough and not worth it! True? :_

Not as easy as it was with the Pentium 120 or the Athlon 1200, or the MQ4700 or whatever.... Decades move on... :)

I do like the desktop heatsinks!!!!

Edit: This besides working out and walking my dog in winter is what I am doing for my winter break? ;) It is a good mind focus other than work....

I only do all of this testing for the last millli-volt cause of perceived over the forum peerpressure to perform. Not me to perform, cause that would likely not end well, but for my silicon to PerForm!!!

This is all so silly :()

Now to go spend time with family :)! P.S. I'm now on vacation!

I spent silly amounts of time and crashes adjusting the PBO curve on my 5950. I need +30 on a few cores for it to stay stable with a heavy F@H load. I’m honestly planning on moving this 5950 to replace the CPU in my FreeNas, and buying a new 5950 for the primary box. Kind of a bummer there isn’t a plan for a stacked vCache 5950 at this time.

At stock ? I have 3 5950x's all at stock, none have ever rebooted in linux. Was yours at stock ? was it on linux ?

Yes, at stock (everything auto) in windows it will crash with 2 WHEA errors every few hours running a 30 core CPU slot and a GPU slot. I can resolve this 2 ways: 1) switch to eco mode. 2) enable precision boost overdrive and apply a positive voltage curve.

i could certainly resolve this by RMAing the chip as it was a fairly common problem with the Nov and Dec 2020 5950s, but that would be a PITA given my custom loop. I’m also not sure what the warranty period is
