BTW, crummy day today, not sure why, except one box was past 100% in a 1760 point unit. said shutting core down for over 1/2 hour. So I tried to end the window, and it was hung. So I ended it. When I started again, it said missing work files ! and it totally lost my unit. Downloaded a new one. It was on my 4400 X2 @2.5, so thats 2 days work gone ! Some days I really hate F@H.....

Thanks for the Heads-Up, GLeeM & Congrats to all of the other MM's

BTW, one of my boxes will be going down soon. When changing out my Tower
3.06Ghz P4 Intel Box into an Antec 900 Midtower I noticed a couple of the Caps near
the CPU had some brown crap comming out of the tops. It's an old Intel 845 Mobo which has been running 24/7 for over 5 years now. :brokenheart: It's my main rig and have been thru a heck of a lot with it in those years.
rose.gif

I guess I'll be upgrading this old setup/new box sooner than planned. I will probably move the 3.06 cpu to my Gigabyte midtower box which currently has a 2.4 P4 Intel CPU and retire that 2.4 cpu. Looked online but didn't find a new mobo which would take a Intel Norwood CPU and the rest of the former Tower's baggage. 🙁

My stats will probably be unstable for a couple of weeks till I get all of this nailed down. 😕

Is the linux SMP client better?

That happen to me a lot on windows xp SMP client
I have better luck on windows vista SMP client

Thanx GLeeM
Congratulations to the MM's:beer:

Thanks for the stats GLeeM.
Congrats to the MM's. Some very impressive ones listed!

My A64 2800+ has offically bit the dust. Either the mobo or PS crapped out on me.
I'm in the process of building a cheapy X2 machine now. I think I'll have the whole thing done for under $200 once all the rebates come back.

Bummer. The windows SMP client is a bit touchy

Is the linux SMP client better?

In my experience, the Linux SMP client runs very smoothly and it seems to generate more PPD than the Windows SMP client even though my Linux boxes are not running at 100% busy.

Monitoring Linux Folding boxes with FahMon is pretty easy. Takes about five minutes to install and config Samba and then map a drive to the Linux box.

The other nice thing about the Linux SMP client is that the affinity issue seems to be "not an issue" in the Linux client. I have tried manually setting the affinity on the four Fah processes with the taskset command but that does not increase PPD. That tells me that the Linux scheduler already has some idea of process/processor affinity.

These are just my own observations from running the Linux SMP client on Fedora 7 on Q6600s as well as running the Windows SMP client on the Q6600s and some E6600s. Please feel free to tell me I'm full of hot air. 😀

I'll give linux a try once I get my parts from Newegg!😎

I've started folding again. 😛

I use to be wizboy11, now i'm what I am now. (also I changed the nickname I use in F@H to reflect that (didn't do much on the old one anyway, so I'd rather start from scratch).

I got a question. Is it better to run 2xConsole versions and set the machine ID in each one of them, or is it better just to get the SMP client and run that one?

Thanks
Dual core opty now folding again 🙂
(This DC opty is gonna become quad core real soon)

Welcome back wizboy11/Dragon5152 🙂

The SMP client will get more points per day. It has some advantages and some disadvantages over two console clients.

The SMP is only a little more involved to install, but if you follow instructions there should be no problem.
Some don't want to make a password on their system, a password is needed for SMP.

Any other questions, just ask.

I'll check out the SMP client after I finish these WU's I'm currently doing (3500000 out of 4000000, might as well let it finish 😉)

I like the SMP results much better than when I fold 2x the regular client. (about 3 times the PPD)

Major caviat:

You have to have a stable network connection. If it resets, is lost for a moment or craps out the current work unit will be lost ( 99% of the time ). I think that was probably the issue with the one(s) described above in this thread.

-Sid

Thanks for the stats GLeeM! (and.... nice sandbag you have going. )
