I have a quick question about F@H and antivirus. I have F@H set up as a service on a number of WinXP boxes and I noticed all of them take forever (several days at least) to do a full virus scan. I've tried three different AV programs (McAfee, CA-or whatever ATT DSL gives for free, and AOL/Kapresky). Finally on one box I paused the F@H service and a full scan was completed in a couple of hours.

Is there a seting I can change in F@H to permit reasonably prompt virus scans, or should I suspend the F@H service when I want to do a scan? That's a PIA because a couple of boxes I don't have regular access to.

The console client can be configured to run at "Idle" or at "Low".

Idle is the lowest priority and Low is not much higher. I would think Antivirus software would run at a little higher priority than that

Can the antivirus software be set to scan at a little higher priority?

The realtime scanner has to run at a higher priority otherwise a virus would not be caught!

GLeeM: If I recall correctly, "idle" is the default setting for F@H and, if so, that is what all my boxes are set at. I'm not sure how to set the priority for manual virus scans-my guess is that they are also set at the equivalent of "idle."

I guess for the time being when I visit the outlying boxes I'll pause the F@H service, start a virus scan and ask the resident to reboot the box sometime after the scan is done. Hopefully the restart will start the F@H service again-is this correct?

It seems strange that antivirus would run at Idle. I don't know what mine runs at but it scans OK with F@H set at Low.

The service should restart with the computer.
