Dang, look at those climbers!!! Go NFS4!!!

I'm personally trying to break back into the first page of the overall stats. Currently at 124. Before the SMP client was released, I was in the 80's. That's back when lots of boxes crunching the 5.04 client were the best you could get. Back then you could get a little better work unit by having more ram.

Now you score high by having Core2 Duos crunching two SMP units at the same time. These configs are fraught with bugs and might work and they might not. I've got one machine that simply refuses to crunch two instances. Yes, I've checked the Affinity changer, yes, I've updated the dot.net 2.0 fix. Yes, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the beta clients as they were released.

There is no easy answer to the folding beta problems. But, the thought I have had recently was that if 1/2 our team were to put one core2 Duo to work, they would have a minimum of 3.7k ppd. What a difference that would make.

Just rambling,

Gravity

It is fun to think about what our TeAm output would look like if everyone had a Core2 to crunch on.

It's hard not to notice that it only takes two core2Quad machines to put me 4th in production. (there is an additional Opty crunching, but it has to do dual CLI clients and only gets about 5% of my work done.)

I am surprised to read you are running two SMP clients on dual core machines.

I thought that was only effective on quads

Well anyway, your output is FANTASTC

Crunch on! 😉

Saludos and kudos to all who crunch for The TeAm.

Gravity -- I've almost always found this to be a memory/clock issue. The higher the OC, the bigger issue memory plays in crunching FAH units, esp. those 100 step work units. Now, it's not so much the issue of how much RAM, but the quality of it. I've got two identical setups -- m/b, cpu, etc. -- except the RAM sticks. One goes to 3.6g, rock stable for any FAH unit, the other one is only stable to 3.4g with the same criteria. And yes, when I swap the RAM between the two rigs, it's the other way around, clock-wise/stability-wise.
Another rig was constantly freezing when crunching FAH, even at stock settings, until I found a RAM stick and sys BIOS that offered a little more stability.

I agree, these beta FAH programs do have bugs, but when you push the OC on your rig, every little flaw in one of these beta's will expose "minor" hardware flaws in your machine's conformation. It is annoying, so it becomes a trade off with how fast you want to run, versus how stable. The former, requiring a bit more "babysitting" to keep the daily points on the up-and-up.

JMHO. Thanks for all you contribute to this program, Gravity. Cheers, MM

Because these are boxes that are desktops for minions, computer illiterates at that, it's difficult to push the clocks to the max. I usually settle for 3.2 and let them put along at that speed. I could get a few more cycles per month if I pushed them to 3.6 but....I guess I don't want to have to tend to them too much. As it is, I use fahmon to tell me when they get hung and then I have to go pay the box a visit.

"gee bob, why have you closed those cmd windows again?" "Gee bob, why didn't you lock your box after hitting ctrl alt del? You know these boxes will go away if you log out."

Ya, not fun.

Keep folding,

Gravity
