:beer::beer::beer:Welcome aboard Cutthroat & ishould:beer::beer::beer:

OT:
I slapped together a brisbane 1.9ghz box using and old Athlon Thunderbird build that has bit the dust with some new bits and am happily crunching away for F@H for about a month now.
The Mobo has internal graphics so I don't currently have a vid card installed. Stanford's ATI FAQ site states that the best card cruncher to use is the x1950XTX w/512 megs mem and that all other ati cards that can process the F@H ATI code are very resource hogs on the rest of the pc boxes they are installed in.
The one exception is the x1950PRO w/256 meg cards which they find is ok.
No specifics stated as to WHY this is so, so if any one of the gang out there has installed an x1950Pro card into a duo core setup could please post your thoughts on this piece of hardware.
It's currently pricing around the low $100 range and I feel that this would be a nice pickup to boost our team's points. (btw, the 1.9ghz box is not doing anything else and is crunching 24/7 overclocked at 2.382 ghz w/1gig of ballistic mem)

Hey Cutthroat -
good to see you "over here" and finally getting to work. You got some catchin' up to do, dude! See ya at the races. MM

I've been folding 24/7 with a X1950PRO (Sapphire 100176U) in my socket 754 rig for the last two months without any problems. At stock speed, it takes about 8 min per frame for an average of 605ppd according to FahMon.

One good thing about the x1950pro is that it runs at 3D clocks all the time unlike the xt & xtx which need to be forced through software. Also the 256MB x1950pro does not suffer from the "pause" problem that affects other 256MB pcie cards.

I'm not sure how well the stock coolers work on the cheaper x1950pro cards. It may be an issue to look into. The Sapphire 100176U that I use has the Zalman VF900 as the stock cooler. This usually keeps the temps in the mid 50s °C at full load.

In terms of ppd/price ratio, the best return seems to be the SMP client for dual cores and the GPU client for older single core systems.

Thanks, Iron Chef for the post & info. I really do appreciate this!

Will order an x1950PRO sometime this month (as my budget allows!) and hopefully post the results of this new addtion to the F@H Fleet🙂

I'll look into what Zalman recommends for the card that I will choose and pick that up as well - got the Zalman 9700 on the 1.9 brisbane and like the way it looks and cools the cpu very nicely.

Wow, Markfw900, that is an awesome production

- even with the July 21's price reduction from Intel it's still a little too rich for my blood to build a box around that $266 quad cpu 🙁

Thanks MadMurph, and others. It's nice to see an active FAH community here unlike the 1 thread at the other place.

Unfortunately, I've had a 1500pt unit lost already since I changed my team, or else I'd probably be ahead of you by now.😉 I only wish when you changed teams that you could take your points with you.

Could somebody please tell me how in the world I can return results that are worth only 3 points?

http://kakaostats.com/usum.php?u=1055063

If you look at previous results, you can also see odd numbers like 63, 31, 92, 28. What can be causing this? Is there any way for me to tell which machine is turning in these weird WUs?

That work unit had an Early Unit End (EUE). Points for a EUEs are determined by the amount of usable science before the WU failed.

EUEs are most often caused by unstable overclocks, excessive heat, or defective hardware. The work unit can also sometimes simply be "bad". If you are getting lots of EUEs, your computer is the likely source.

Check the FAHlog.txt to find out which computer is giving you problems. This file is located in the folder where you installed the folding client.

Thanks for the info. I'll check my machines and see which one is having problems with F@H. AFAIK, all my machines are 100% stable (or as stable as it's possible to get).

Look here !

You already did. 🙂

As a comparison, I've only been folding for about 4-5 days now and I'm almost over 10K.
Paulnt04

My Q6600 does about 2K ppd at stock. My P4 HT 3.0GHz is still on it's first WU (my Q6600 started at the same time is on it's sixth) and is only 80% done. It does about a frame every 1 min 44 sec.

I can't wait until I get my new 680i board to OC my Q6600 and my second cruncher (Q6600 on a P35). I should get about 5K ppd.

Question: Can you run the GPU client and the SMP client on the same computer? I'm going to have a X1950Pro on my second cruncher. Can it be done?

You probably can, but the GPU client suck at least one full CPU core in use as well, so you would slow it way down. the PPD on the SMP is better.

The P4 should do at least 120 ppd on a regular WU and almost ~200+ ppd on a bonus large WU.

The SMP, GPU and PS3 are high performance clients with short deadlines and so they get much higher ppd.

Unless someone else here knows, you may have to search the F@H community forum to see how others have done using a GPU and SMP.
I do know that the GPU client uses one core/CPU for polling the vid card.
