Just 1 thing a side panel fan would be better off drawing air in than exhausting.

You could be right but that case only has one fan and I couldn't tell if it was a 90 cm or 120 cm fan. If it was a 90 cm, then installing a 120 cm fan on the side panel blowing into the case could cause negative pressure. Plus these "off the shelf" systems tend to run the fans (cpu included) at low fan speeds. The consumer likes a quiet computer and the waranty varies!!😉

Anymore info (links) about the crippled 9600 GSOs? 🙂

I don't recall posting on this but I do have an 8600GTS that produced about 1500 ppd but EUE'd at 1 of 3 WUs. As Sid said, a lot of people had problems with this card!!!! (G80 GPU).

I agree with Sid's advice: Get a card with a G92 core!!!! I believe VirtualLarry said the same thing.

cheers!
Ref side fan, to avoid pressure imbalance just slowdown the side fan, then it would be quieter too 🙂 (I've found 120mm fans even at 1400 RPM are pretty quiet anyway).

About the 9600 GSOs, I was after the specs from the 2 different models, or better still a review explaining the differences & why on eath Nvidia did it.

My impression is the ATI cards also run hot (AS1 can comment from experience) and ppd is significantly lower (half?). Nvidia cards are clearly the best performers on FAH.

IMHO, you would be happy with any G92 card vs. the top of the line ATI card for folding of course.🙂

For gaming, that's another discussion.
The card I choose (Power Colour HD 4830) is known for running considerably cooler than many ATI HD 48xx cards as it's a dual slot cooler. Even overclocked 50 MHz (not tried higher yet 😉) on the GPU, peak temps are only ~60C running F@H.
I've read quite a few user reviews on other cards (4830s/4850s) & many of them run at 80-90+C! (running games), personally I think 90+ is too hot. However even those cards can have the fan sped up to cool them better. I've limited mine to just 45% as it was jumping from 37% to 54% & it was annoying.

And yea ppd is far lower atm with ATI cards 🙁, gaming wise my card is mostly slightly faster than an 8800 GT, however in F@H the 8800 GT manages over 4000 ppd (Markfw's stats) whilst my slighty o/ced HD 4830 does ~2400-2800 ppd when run alongside F@H SMP. So roughly the 8800 GT is 50% faster in F@H.
Power draw from the wall (230v) increases by about 35w when running F@H GPU on my rig.
No idea about the 8800s.
