Folding Client v7 Public Beta Released

Does it work with smp ? With bigadv ? It looks like it, but I wish someone would try it out and reply back with ppd differences.

There site was down earlier. It is back up now.

The beta client seems simple enough. One interface to control cpu and GPU clients plus lets you monitor networked clients

ppd differences
Still uses the same cores so the WU will still take same time to finish.

But this program will help increase ppd, at least a little depending on your upload speed because it will download the next WU a little before the current one finishes!

Well I had to do some upgrades to my Q9450 setup and doing so, I added A SSD, windows 7 and this new folding client V7. Pretty simple to setup and it is crunching along as we speak. 1 smp and 2 Gpu's.

Will this client work on a low spec PC? My desktop has a AMD Athlon X2 3250e CPU, ATI Radeon 3200 Graphics, 4GB RAM.

Not an ideal PC for folding, but am working towards getting a new notebook that will crunch some numbers.

it is really just the same client. The big difference is the interface. It allows to to setup and monitor both processor and gpu clients with one program.

Well I have it running and still trying to figure out how to add the arguments. Looks like so far that my GTX 460's are 1000 ppd less and my smp client falls short. Been upgrading my pc's at the same time so once they are in order, I will focus on the arguments that desperately are in need.

This new format takes getting used to as it doesn't really play nice for me just yet. I personally don't like it starting up when windows boots up. I disabe it but then starting manually sucks too. PPd is down and adding arguments is a pain. Need to find more info on the "how to" part of this version. I am seriously thinking going back to V6 as I have more control. For now anyway.......

Yay - it started downloading the next WU at 99% of current WU. So it crunched for the two hours to send instead of just sitting doing nothing but send!!!

So that will be good for about 2,000 more points per WU!!!

I too think the interface could have been a little better. I had to crunch a regular smp WU first in order to add the "client-type=bigadv" to get bigadv WUs. I guess I was just used to adding flags to the shortcut properties.

Thx Animal 🙂
Will give it a go soon.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, will a newly installed client carry on the same WU where the old client left off? Or will it start over?

I installed this last night. I've finally got my 5870 folding and making points (~8400ppd) up from the old 4000ppd, which just wasn't worth the extra power bill.
The first two gpu3 work units i downloaded caused errors and didn't get completed, but it is a still in early stages.
Assim1, I'm not not sure.

i'm loving it.

don't care if its slower or lose ppd, but to control it all so quickly and easily is exactly what the doctor ordered

evening running a stock 5870, i can't get it to complete a WU. It would be at least 5 WU's that have been uncompleted with a "UNSTABLE_MACHINE (122)" error. This has happened from 12% completed to 90% completed. It all seems very random. The CPU is overclocked, but i don't see that causing an issue with the GPU folding. I'm running Win 7 x62 pro.
Any ideas?

hehe, unsupported software...the rare 62bit version of windows...

The GPU was only hitting 77C so heat wasn't an issue. It has a good powersupply, so that shouldn't to much of a problem.
I've gone back to stock cpu speed (2.66ghz) from 3.45ghz. lets see what happens

Here's a pic of the v7 client running on linux. It would be nice if the Base credit, Estimated Credit and Estimated PPD fields were filled in. :hmm:
