Folder sharing has delay before working. Why?

BACKGROUND:
New Dell XPS-8900 running Win10 (call it 8900). Used Dell laptop running Win8.1 (call it laptop).

PROBLEM:
I created a shared folder in the 8900 PC as "C:\ShareFolder-8900". Then I created a shared folder in the laptop as "C:\ShareFolder-laptop". Setup permissions for Everyone and "Full Control" for both folders.

When I open Computer on the laptop and click "XPS-8900" in the Network, the first time I get an error message that says "Windows cannot connect to XPS-8900/ShareFolder-8900". I can click it again and get the same error message. I wait about 15 seconds and click it again and then it works and I can read/write/copy/move files between the laptop and desktop with no problem.

Any ideas why there is a delay with the "cannot connect" error but then it works after waiting for about 15 seconds?

FWIW, I did turn off power saving for the network and wireless adapters for both computers in Device Manager. Also, the delay only occurs accessing the shared folder in the Win10 PC from the laptop. When opening the shared folder in the Win8.1 laptop from the Win10 PC, the folder opens instantaneously. So the delay is being caused by Win10. Bah, humbug Win10! #$*&

Try accessing by \\ipaddress in the explorer address bar. I've seen this happen with 7 and 8 as well.

I think I might have found a fix by accident. I decided to try mapping the "ShareFolder-8900" from the laptop. Have not had any delays opening that folder via mapping. As a by product, it seems that even the network share to that folder is working without any delays. Still need to test further for verification since I "just" did this.

I do have questions about drive mapping which I'll ask in another thread.

Thanks much for your suggestion,
