Folder For mail In Outlook Express

I had to use my daughters machine while mine was down. Which folder is my Outlook Express mail in? I want to copy it over to my machine. Thanks.

I'm on Win98SE and the Outlook Express stuff is loosely in Windows. I don't know where the specific "mail" stuff is tho.

Your best bet would be to Export the folders from your daughter's computer and then Import them into your Outlook Express.

Can I do this over the network?

What you want to do is go into Outlook Express on your daughter's computer and use the commands below:

File ---> Export ---> Messages

It will then prompt you for some info (I believe). Just export the inbox of your account. Now all you need to do is get the exported file from her computer onto yours somehow. Then all you want to do is open up Outlook Express on your computer and do the following: File ---> Import ---> Messages. Just select that created file and you should be good to go.

It's giving me an error because Outlook wasn't the default mail client. I made it so but still get the error. She just got home and will now do the teenage angst thing so I'll have to try later. Thanks.

LOL Aint that the truth.

Use the Windows search tool and look for .dbx files... they should be named in accordance with the folders you had created under outlook express. On the new machine, place these where you find similar .dbx files and restart. You should be able to access them without much hassle.

Just an FYI, for those of you using Outlook instead of outlook express, search for the single .pst file, which will contain all the folder and email data.

\Windows\Application Data\Identities\"some major number"\Microsoft\Outlook Express is where it is in 98SE

I found the path when I did a search for *.dbx but I have no such folder as "some major number" (it's a long number, 7C96EBA0.......) in the Application Data folder. I'll try again tomorrow while she is at school. At the very least I can just forward the messages to myself.
