I would like to get one for Halloween to lay down some ground fog near our front door to make it look spooky.

Obviously I don't want to spend a ton of money but I want something that will work. Budget is $70-90 but I can stretch it a little higher for a good product that works.

A sub kW unit should be fine for home use:

Larger units have more powerful heaters which will produce more fog and allow longer runs before the heater needs to run, etc.

I know my roommate in college bought one for probably $50 at Walmart, and it worked well. Well enough to set off the smoke detector in our dorm room. Fortunately we cleared the fog out of the room before the fire alarm went off.

the fog juice you can get publicly is a bit too light usually, wet your yard a bit before using it. it will make the smoke "stick" to the yard better. the ones at the halloween stores are fairly decent, have good output and usually have timer accessories available so you dont have to really deal with them much at all throughout the evening.

We have a 1200 watt one, I believe my housemate is buying a lower-power one because this one tends to flip the breaker. It's in a room with a lot of electric shit. Potentially, we're selling it. If you're curious, drop me a PM and I'll send you photos and figure out a price.

Just go to a halloween store...they definitely have them in your price range. My wife has a couple she uses for our annual Halloween party.
