Fog lights on cars

Do they actually do anything? I know they are supposed to make it easier to see in rain, snow, and fog, but do they work as advertised? They seem like more of a cosmetic accessory and a money magnet than anything else.

i love mine... they are god sent in foggy conditions... and at night, its easier to see what is directly in front of you on the road (roadkill specifically)... i havent noticed a big difference as far as rain and snow go though...

True 'foglights' are yellow or amber. These DO help if aimed properly, but most auxilary driving lights are just plain annoying!

When I used to have them, I noticed that they'd illumnated the ground by shooting the light LOW. This would bounce the light off the fog the least. If I lived in a place with fog, I'd have them.

If you've ever driven in heavy fog and clicked on your brights...you'd realize why fog lights work so well.

When you put your brights on (compared to regular head lights), the fog reflects your beams back at you...you can see a whole lot of fog really well...but not so much the road--low beams work alot better...fog lights even more.

Good, properly aimed fog lamps can do a world of good in inclement weather. Of course cheap fog lamps don't do much at all. If you get a good pair and have them installed and aimed properly they can do a lot of good.

If you go autozone buy something cheap and mount it with a sticky piece of tape then no. They do nothing but make me want to drive over you. Fog lights are meant to be aimed low and traditionally have a yellow-ish color. Read why HERE

ummm... why would fog lights be distracting, or blinding... the ones that i have arent any brighter than my normal lights, they are just pointed lower... BTW, mine are factory fog lights, and i have a 96 beretta...

I have fogs on my 86 mustang. I love them they rule. Just PLEASE aim the properly!!!!!! and please no colored lights. they suck bad

I have a nice set of PIAA fog lights, they work better than I could have ever imagined. They came with my car but I have seen the same ones for $250 at a local place. They make driving in foul conditions alot nicer.

How about the rear fog lights on high buck European (most except VW, that I?ve noticed) cars sold in the US. These blindingly focused red lights are required in most other countries, but idiots with no common sense like to run them on clear nights in bumper to bumper traffic on well lit roads. I tend to lose my cool because the fricking dealer didn't tell them not to use them when there's no fog or even show them what that switch is for. And god forbid any of these fools would RTFM.

Bright blue fog lights and headlights (I?m talkin? about incandescent, not HID) are annoying to oncoming traffic, and as far can tell, since they filter out the yellow light (the more useful color, hence many fog lights are yellow), they?d be insufferably difficult to see with. They don?t look cool to me, they look stupid and dangerous.

For 250 bucks you can get some better foglights than some cheesy oem ones, granted they wont fit/look nicely like the oem ones but still.

Go to Rally Lights for all your foglight needs.
Thats where i bought my 85watt Hella Yellow Star bulbs, and damn are they ever bright.
