Foam as Filters

Does anyone know where I can find some foam that I can use as a filter for my tower fans. Right now I'm using cut up vaccuum bags but want to get something more permanant; something I can wash.

- new, nice smell
- used, better airflow and still a nice smell

people have opined that panty hose also works extremely well as a filter. I was going to try it myself but the wife gave me really strange looks when I asked for a pair of hers.

im using an Electrostatic Hammock air filter. Pick it up at Canadian Tire. basically it's a huge sheet of Filter meant for the house. Air flow is great tru it and it pick out everything in the air. Because of it's size, it was meant to be cut I think.

Dryer sheets suck, I had one on mine, and it was restricting air flow so much. I took it off and my case temp dropped 3c

Cool. Yeah these vaccuum bags work fine, however I always have to cut them up every two weeks or so. They get EVERYTHING tho. Thanks for the info.

I bought a "Frost King Polyurethane foam air conditioner filter" at Home Depot and just cut it up to make filters. Pretty low restriction, and there's a lot of it,1/4" thick, 15"x24". Part#F1524, bar code 0 77578 03051 7.

Problem with computers and filters is that the enclosures are not built to accept filters with a large surface area, so you need extensive mods to get that, or accept some airflow restriction and frequent cleaning.

Tschaft: Did you use USED dryer sheets? They hardly restrict
the airflow in my case. First i tried new dryer
sheets and it did not work that good at all.

I found that a simple good old blue furnace filter cut up and duct taped to the inside of the bezel of my enlight 7237 works just great. Also, it really doesn't cut down on airflow that much at all.
